Leaves are nealy all gone now... and what's left is mostly brown...
That's part of the joy of nature... the fact that the splenor is so brief! Makes it all the more beautiful!

Yeah, no kidding. In the Desert we go straight from Summer to Winter...maybe two weeks of Fall if we're lucky...

Wow---- I have no concept of the seasons in the desert area.... Other than dry and rainy... hot and not so hot. Andrew will be moving to the LA area next fall for school, so I'm sure I'll find out!

If we have a good rainy season, the wildflowers go nuts. I counted thirteen different kinds one year!

the high desert does have a beauty - when i take drives to fort irwin to deliver phones or wotnot, i can really get in touch with nature out that way. fort irwin is miles from anywhere and there's nothing but hills and desert bushes. mixed with the clear sky, it paints a picture that can clear your mind and free you of your worries... But I miss New Hampshire too.

Oh, Leda, you don't know what you're missing until you've seen a wild purple lupin or smelled a desert dandelion...seriously! They smell like a cross between vanilla and honey.

I want to travel cross country and see all the cool, different terrains out there. Europe is nice too, but there is a big country right here I haven't see all of yet. It's on my list of dreams...

It's not quite as strong as honeysuckle, but if you either crouch down and sniff or pick one and sniff...better if you have whole bouquet....ahhh, the heavenly smell! Every April and May I pick a whole handful- there's usually acres of them, sometimes so thick you can't go far without stepping on them -an give them to my mom. She loves them, too.
