I'll put in my early bid for LACon next year -- the 2006 World Science Fiction Convention in Anahiem over Labor Day weekend. Worldcon is one of the reasons I've never been to a DragonCon even though it's relatively close. They're always at the same time and Worldcon is just a better buy for me. I know people who go, lots of cool programming and dealer's stuff, room parties, art show, author readings, filking, organized and practically professionally run masquerade, etc. Ten times the programming choices that you saw at CIII and less than 20% of the crowds. Whenever Worldcon is in California it always has more media and I would expect Lucasfilm to be there in force if they're promoting anything. Better yet, the convention doesn't pay for any of it's guests; it's all non-profit and they come for the publicity. No autographs (except from the book authors and artists), but I don't go for those anyway. Worldcon memberships are expensive, but I've always found it a better deal. And NO LINES!
For smaller Jedi Assembly gatherings, the most obvious meeting places are your regional science fiction conventions, if they're good ones. If you're not interested in SF/fantasy then you're not going to get your money's worth out of the con, but they're generally great places for wearing a Jedi costume.;D
And I did see a note on TheForce.net about a *rumor* that a CIV could be in Las Vegas and GenCon would not be involved...which is obviously just internet talk for now, but I'd at least think about a CIV if GenCon were not involved. Doesn't cost anything to think about it.

Nooooo! Not LV! Too far, too crowded and too hot! Not to mention too much gambling
I've heard the rumor, too, and hope it is just a rumor. No way I could ever make it that far away

If there is a C4 and it is in Las Vegas, I will not attend. To far and to expensive for my blood.

Yeah, LV interests me not at all. But the heat wouldn't be such a big deal, since it's probably like Florida where everything is air conditioned with a passion. A lot depends on who would be running any possible event. Lucasfilm would be better off subcontracting out to real trade show runners.

Oh wow, if it is held in LV, I'll not be able to attend either. After the nightmare time I had with my friend's daughter at CIII, I will never take her anywhere again, I am hoping there will be a CIV and that, if not held in Indianapolis, it will be close enough for me to attend. Oh well, we can only hope it's just talk and that it won't really happen. Now, if I could just talk my parents in to houndsitting my three Dachshunds, I would be able to attend some of the other Cons I've read about.

Well, I for one am hoping beyond hope there is another. I am already putting away money for it. I am putting back $10.00 a paycheck...then if it doesn't come to pass, then I'll have some money to put towards another costume.....or go visit Schph and the Chicago Force.... ;D
I do hope it is not in Las Vegas though...but aren't the hotels that have gambling cheap...no? But I say either Indy again or even Atlanta.....

I don't have nearly as strong an opinion about WHERE a CIV might be as I do about WHO is running it. As badly managed as CIII was for us attendees, it must have been much worse for people running it. GenCon just doesn't have much in the way of standards for running a big event; it all seemed to be so minimally handled and last-minute planned. GenCon IS a business and I just don't feel like patronizing them again.

I doubt we'll do CIV. I like to go to LV, but if had to attend it'll have to be closer to home, no farther than Wsashington D.C. I am looking toward Dragoncon 2006, Comcon as I used to live out there, that sort of thing. Even Costumcon next year--long as it is not same weekend as Ravecon here in Richmond as I am the masquerade director for that new con and also be doing some literary panels as an author. In fact, this year, it's close to home for us for cons--with C3 anfd the termites spraying killing us money-wise. I had two good friends beg me and Bill to go with them in room at Dragoncon (they got the room), but Bill and i told them lack of money even for our part of room, plus paying for membership if I couldn't get guest status. Told them 2006 we could. So unless CIV closer to home we rather do a con with more than just Star Wars in it for now. JMD

I totally agree that, while I do hope CIV is closer than LV, if Gen Con is running it, I will not attend no matter where they decide to have it. I know CII had its problems, but to me CIII seemed much more chaotic than CII and just not well planned at all. At first I was upset that I wasn't able to volunteer, but from what I've heard and read, I think I'm glad I wasn't able to. I commend those of you who did and lived to tell about it with you sanity and humor intact.

Personally I'd love for CIV to be in LV, I've never been to America before and I'm a big fan of casinos ;D
I just hope I get a chance to participate in another mass TJA event sometime down the track...

Celebration IV... I wonder what illness I'll catch there?? Like many of the locals here in Indy, I came down with what I affectionately call "Grevious' Plague" which included coughing, stuffed head, congestion, and for a brief while, fever. I'm finally overcoming this stupid illness..
If there is a C4, it really should be in '07, for the 30th Anniversary. Indianapolis is a great central location, but SO MUCH needs to be done regarding convention organization and guests. No dis meant to those who came, but I think I speak for a lot of fans when I say we wanted to see some BIG O.T. names...the ones who don't do regular conventions. I don't get why GenCon dropped the ball-- they run GEN CON, darn it, and as absolutely boring as it was last year (I don't game. At all), the kept 30,000 gamers tickled pink with activity and events without the life sucking lines.
I dunno. If there is a C4, I'll go, just because I love meeting fans from all over. And..... if any of the Japanese guests who shot video with me at the Friday night party at CIII read this, please, believe me, honestly, I'M NOT GEORGE LUCAS!

Jorg, I am so sorry that I didn't get to meet you. You were always busy with meet and greet and photo ops, I just didn't get to shake your hand. I hope to be able to meet you in the future though.
