I don't know if anyone has seen this on other message boards. Chanel Vanachek (known in Rebel Legion as PadmeSkywalker) died in October at the too young age of 23 years. She was also in the 501st and was the new City Reb for San Francisco Fan Force. She suffered heart attacks and stroke. She left behind a young daughter. The response from the fan community was immediate and generous. Various projects have been started to raise money for a scholarship fund for her daughter. Paizo Publishing is going to donate ALL profits from selling Ep2 Imax posters from now until 4/1/04 to Angela's College fund. If you've been thinking of getting one of those Yoda Posters check out the link below. It's also on the inside front cover add of issue 73 SW Insider. If you are a subscriber to SW Insider, Bantha Tracks has a full page tribute to her on pg 9. www.galactichunter.com/absolutenm/templates/full_article_template_1.asp?articleid=2131&zoneid=2Those who wish to send a contribution directly to the fund can write a check or money order (US funds) to: Scholar's Choice Acct. # 954079 – Investment option #1906. In the memo write "Angelica Vanecek." Mail funds to: CITIBANK, P.O. Box 8566, Boston, MA 02266-8566

I saw the article in Insider, what a shame to lose such a young person and apparently a very talented costumer. There is little I can say as I never had a chance to meet her, but my heart goes out to her family.

There are no words to express the sadness I feel for this young persons family, especially for her daughter. My mother died at a young age and I know what it will be like for her daughter to grow up wondering...at least these days there is video. I had none of that. I only remember my mother by photographs and I can no longer remember her voice. It is times like this that we all hope there is an all encompassing Force out there to guide us when we go to the next plane of existance. All our prayers and hopes to you, Chanel

Thanks for posting Kai...
I sent a donation to Paizo along with the TJA T-shirt that we earmarked for Mary Franklin (Bantha Tracks Editor).....I really didn't need another poster...so a simple donation was the way to go for me....
Even though I have not met hardly any of you, I feel a sense of community here.....and that is the big thing with the fund for Chanel's daughter.......so I encourage all that can afford to....to send a donation.....

Ooops, Schph, the donation is supposed to go not to Paizo but to the address listed in my post:
Scholar's Choice Acct. # 954079 – Investment option #1906. In the memo write "Angelica Vanecek." Mail funds to: CITIBANK, P.O. Box 8566, Boston, MA 02266-8566
It also says that in very fine print below the info about Chanel in the poster ad on the inside front cover of the mag.
I'm going to a party toward the end of the month that Mary Franklin may also be attending. Since it's a Star Wars party (shhhh.....secret party for a local Imperial), I'm planning on wearing my new TJA tshirt. Hope she'll be wearing hers!

Kai: did she suffer from a weak heart or some sort of heart failure?
i can't believe that she is gone...and only 23...worsely leaving behind alittle girl. i can't believe it. i'm 22 and makes me wonder. why do so many people we know and love have to leave us when we don't want them to? prayers go out to her family. i know how it feels when the person you love the most dies and when you don't want them to go, but her baby girl is the one who really needs the love now. that poor angel that she is. here's to the family and friends of Chanel. bless them all!

Yeah....after I sent it off...that thought crossed through my head...but I tend to be single minded...I thought Paizo/Mary Franklin because they were donating the proceeds from the sale of the IMAX posters....after I sent it...I remembered there was another address.... oh well....I did put that the check was for the Chanel fund...so I am sure that Mary will handle it.... let us know if she shows up in her shirt....

From what I read at the RL board, she had a type of congenital autoimmune disease which was a contributing factor.
Having a nerfherding hubby with an autoimmune disease, I can deeply empathize with her family. I feel for the loss they have.
She was a member here at TJA also, under the name Padme Skywalkr. Perhape we need a Fallen Jedi page like the RL has for fallen Rebels?

I belong to the Sacramento FanForce. We are dedicating our movie to her memory, and later we are having a luncheon with the SFFF to celebrate her life.

That's not a bad idea to put a fallen jedi section.
I can only hope that this will not be a big section, for I want everyone to live a long prosperous life... and you ARE all my friends, even if I have not met ANY of you.
I am only 21, and I cannot believe that ANYONE (in these days) under 70 should not be with us... I had a friend die when she was 19, a cousin die when he was 20, an uncle die when he was 50, and grandparents that died in their early 60's... ALL of them were taken WAY too early in life, granted they made impacts, but it took their untimely deaths to make me realize that they did... So to everyone here, and all my friends, family, enemies, confidants, and anyone else I forgot to mention, I would like to say "I love you with all my heart."
Peace be with you all, and especially with anyone like Chanel's daughter who may never (or have never) known who these close people were to them.

A fallen jedi section is good. As for death and all, nothing is certain for any of us. Someone, in her thirties died two weeks before Christmas unexpectedly. She was in my SF/fantasy/horror reading group. The only thing wish i had done was attend the December meeting, but didn't and so my last time with her was at a F. Paul Wilson signing at local genre bookstore our group meets at--day after Thanksgiving. One of the girls thought it was diabetes. She didn't come to work as usual and a co-worker went to her place to find out why they hadn't heard from her that Monday and found her in her place. It brought my mortality home to me hard.
