Hello everyone! I have heard a lot of talk about how Star Wars has mostly a male following, but I don't believe it ! So, all of you female SW fans, introduce yourself!!! I am also interested in how many female fans dress up as Jedi. As for me, my name is Shannon, and I have been a SW fan since 1977. I am lucky enough to have a husband who is just as fanatical about SW as I am. In fact, it was SW that brought us together ! He couldn't believe that he found a girl he liked that also loved SW!!! I am currently making Jedi costumes for both of us to wear to the Celebration II. I would love to hear everyone's SW stories!!!

::waves:: I'm a female star wars fan. So is my room mate. We're both dressing as jedi for celebration 2. In fact, we're going as twin jedi.
The two of us went to dinner one night dressed as star wars characters. Me as Maul, her as Obi-wan. I'd swear the WHOLE place staired at us for a good 20 mins. We casually walked in, put our lightsabers on the table in plain view and started talking diplomatically. God I love catching the rich people around here off guard. No wonder our neibors don't drop by lol.

That's AWESOME Czuco !! I wish I had the guts to do something like that. My husband would do it in a heartbeat, and now that I am making costumes, I'll bet he'll try it sometime. I think I would be brave enough to do it if he was with me-he's really good at stuff like that and gets such a kick out of it. Me, I'm kind of shy . I am trying to get over that. I'll keep an eye out for twin Jedi at the Celebration, as I think it would be awesome to meet everybody!

lol This is the reason I've been an "outcast" since like... 2nd grade. Even when i was little I refused to go with the accepted norm. I've always pretty much done, said, and worn what I want. I remember wearing just swim shorts in the pool as a kid.... god i miss those days.... If your really worried about what public thinks about you and you sum up enough currage to go outdressed in a costume go to Denny's. You wont get to many stairs there. In fact they've complimented me once or twice... usually about my hat though lol. Everyone compliments my hat acctually lol. ::shrugs:: Oh well. I say if you have the outfits... go ahead and wear it. Screw other people. Remind me to tell the story of the cow pants when Episode 1 came out lol.

The 'cow pants'?! I gotta hear this one............ This is a strange topic for me because I never really thought that being a girl and a Star Wars fan were mutually exclusive. I do remeber being teased for my ESB lunch box in the 4th grade because it was 'for boys', or so I was told. To which I replied, "Whatever!" And that was the end of that. I just never got the concept...... Thankfully! And, Shoshana........ people want to be characters other than Jedi Knights?! I just can't imagine........ lol! I have wanted to be like Ben Kenobi, the wise old wizard, since ANH came out when I was 5. I never thought his character would get better some 20 years later!! My nieces are also obsessed with SW. One is a Jedi fanatic and the other is really into the Sith. Oh well, you can't save them all........... I am still working on my nephews........

Yes, I REALLY want to hear the cow pants story! TELL, TELL!! When I was a kid, I didn't know a single girl that liked SW! Sure, lots of them loved Mark Hamill/Luke Skywalker, but they didn't really get into the world of SW. Also, before TPM was released, I visited a few newgroups, chat rooms, etc. and there didn't seem to be that many women around. And even now, when I look at my friends, most of the women don't like SW, but plenty of the men do. Maybe I've just been hanging around the wrong people, huh? Since I joined the Assembly though, I must say I have met quite a few women who are fans. That's one reason why I love this group!!!!!! And I agree Xana, the more I see of Obi-Wan, the better he gets!! Who cares about Anakin, Obi-Wan is the BEST! Good for your nieces, no matter which side they are on! And as for your nephews, if they keep watching Dragon Ball Z, they will eventually like SW, since Akira Toyriama (the author of DBZ) seems to be highly influenced by it. There are SO many SW references in that show. That's probably why I like it so much!! I really don't know why anyone would want to be anything BUT a Jedi!! Those imperials are so wimpy!!!! LOL!

Anakin who?? Ah, yes, Dragon Ball Z-- they are hooked!! I don't get Cartoon Network here, and I hear about it every time they come to visit!! There is a SW website for female fans called Star Wars Chicks. I checked it out a couple of times. Having the Sci-fi/ SW crowd be mostly guys isn't all that bad for us when you think about it. I know I'm not complaining! Actually, it is nice to meet other female fans! Especially Jedi who know how to use power tools and make their own lightsabers!! You do know that Leia becomes a Jedi and so does her daughter, Jaina, right?. One of my favorite action figures is Leia as a Jedi. I would like to have seen that happen in one of the movies. If there are to be more movies after the prequels, (not likely, but I can dream), it would be cool to see Han and Leia's as Jedi Knights!

1 more female fan on the list, not sure I ever noticed that there were more guy fans than girls, no complants from me on that count. Wendy, lives in NYC. I've always been a fan of monster movies and science fiction, either written or on film. The 1st movie I remember seeing was "The Mole People" my aunt & uncle were supposed to take me to a Disney flick, but I thought otherwise. I used to love this space serial they showed before the sat. mat. movies, someday I'll track that down, but it was really corny and is probably obscure as well. I did see a bit of a trailer for it at Jekyll & Hyde club 1 night, I freaked out, least I know I didn't imagine it. I got hooked on ANH the 1st showing in NYC, at the Loew's Astor Plaza, and it ran there for like a year and a half

Well, we all know that I got the costume, well I'm not at all shy about wearing it, the first time I wore the long one, I went up to NYRenFest, that was funny, we've had invasions of Bikers, Cavaliers, Star-Trekkers, Vampires, Elves, and a few other things over the years, but seldom SW characters or Jedi, maybe SW/NYC ought to do an outing this summer, could you just see it! I wore it to dinner on Halloween, well I thought about going out, but when you work in a costume shop, you're generally dead by the end of Halloween. I wore it to the BMA of course, and then wore it home on the subway & through times sq. done that twice, will of course wear it to the store I go to for midnight madness next week. Of Course the Opening of EpII.

Isn't funny how Disney films really scare people when they are little kids, I think the only thing on film that ever really scared me was in Sleeping Beauty, when Malificent turned into the dragon, my favourite scene in that film to this day.

Dude Disney flicks are evil.... at least the first like 30 or so lol. Someone always ended up dead in those movies. ubt they're toning it down now. Acctually the recent disney flicks have been so not to par with the others. They're comming out with sequals to everything.... It ruining the originals..... Like there arnt enough Stories for them to make into cartoons they have to go on whats already been done.... shame on Disney....

Disney rocks! ;D I love Disney, especially the theme parks. One of the first things I am going to do when I move to Florida is get a yearly pass for residents. I have to agree that the last few movies put out by Disney aren't up to par with the Classics. My favorite is Lady and the Tramp!! The last really good Disney movie (for me at least) was The Lion King. I liked Atlantis too, but it was just okay. The kids sure love them though! But wait a second, aren't we supposed to be talking about Star Wars? ;D

Another female fan checking in....never gave it much thought male/female fan ratios....been a tomboy my whole life. Worked on and raced cars for most of my 20's, 30's and 40's. Lived American Graffitti the summer of 1979. Big into tools....always have been. Been hanging around with guys for as long as I can remember so I just think that all women are into the same thing the guys are.
Love slipping into a costume to be someone else for a while..
