Well, you know how in the Middle Ages, knights would have a coat-of-arms to identify themselves when they were in full armor? I was thinking, that since the Jedi are also called "Knights", why couldn't the Jedi have the same thing? Does anyone think it would be a good idea to have those here?

I just don't see the Jedi as an heraldic culture. Their faces aren't covered in battle, so no need for another form of identification. Arms are also familial, and, in Canon, the Jedi don't have seem to have families (except for that Skywalker situation and so, far, in Ep II, we're led to believe that's an aberration). And how would they display these Arms? Wearing them would seem odd to me.
If you're at an event wearing some kind of jedi garb AND a coat of arms, I wouldn't expect the general public to know what you are. It really heightens the experience, as others have told here, to have the public recognize us as Jedi. That is one of the reasons the Assembly requires a movie-accurate costume.
But then, I have another outlet for my interest in heraldry and lots of heraldic accoutrement already, so I'm a stick in the mud when it comes to combining my heraldry hobby with my Star Wars hobby.

Well, it was just an idea I had while looking at a family tree that my great-aunt had assembled for our family. I found that I was descended from Scottish knights and barons (in fact I'm also related to the royal line of Scotland. Robert the Bruce is my 21x great- grandfather) so I struck upon the idea of coat-of-arms for Jedi. The family tree idea intrigues me, but I'm not quite sure I understand exactly what you mean, Als-da Aldan.

I do remember reading in a few books, that at least Correlian Jedi had a symbol that represented them, they were commenly put on coins or other trinkets, and given to the jedi's friends and family memebers.

whch one... I kind of made both of them up... the "Power of the living force" is a take off of Darth Vaders line in EpIV:
"The ability to destroy a star is insignificant when compared to the power of the Force" [/i]
Becomes:
The power of the Dark Side is insignificant when compared to the power of the Living Force
It is also partly based on the fight between the spirit of Exar Kun and Kieran Halcyon/Corran Horn in I, Jedi in which Corran rips the theroy of the Dark Sdie being stronger because, and I'm paraphrasing because it takes seveal paragraphs to get across in the book: The Force is powered by living beings, and by drawing on the dark side to kill living beings you only weaken the Force, therefore weakening the dark side.
The Way of the Jedi Gaurdians is my personal take on the Jedi Code:
There is no emotion; there is peace. There is no ignorance; there is knowledge. There is no passion; there is serenity. There is no death; there is the Force.[/i]
Becomes:
“Where there is no emotion, there is no caring or love There is no ignorance, only those untrained If there is no passion, there is no strength or courage There is the Force, there is also loyalty, honor and vigilance.” The Way of the Guardians

You know, I had forgotten about the Jedi Credits when I thought of the coat-of-arms idea. Maybe that's where I got it.

P.S.
I agree, those quotes are cool.

Thanks for reminding me of the name...
I'm thinking of geting a few of the Jedi Credits made, as soon as I can come up with Cris' symbol. Probably as pendants and giving them to friends at Assemble the Assembly

okay i'll try to explain
on my idea for the family lineage, okay all jedi are family ,in a sence , right,i thought it would be kooool and neat to make a fantasy jedi lineage,of our personas on the boards........something like this, yoda is dookuu's master dokuu is qu gon jin's master, qui gon is obi wan's master and obi wan is anakin's master, see how many of us assembly jedi have a master taught the ways of the force and jedi trained by master yoda, or beyond yoda, and also to that to see which present master in the new trilogy have been our master or padawan at one point or the other, and or whom we jedi have missioned with..both passed and presenti think i explained that the way my mind wanted it to come out loljust an idea....nothing more nothing less...something to ponder

Man my Earth family tree has no one cool in it. I am somehow related to Woodrow Wilson who was Pres. of the U.S. but it is not a direct link. The only direct links I have were all horse thieves in Poland ;D
Getting off topic, I know, I know
