Does anyone out there hate the new republic like me(EU,New jedi order, etc.) I mean there is no order to it. For goodness sakes luke goes and screws up the whole jedi code by allowing emotional entanglements and the part about having kids :Pand no one wears the traditional garb anymore. Luke dresses like a sith commander, not to mention he was never really trained like a jedi and uses the force to hurt people as well. Its like the 70's 8-)or something. Opinions anyone...

Hate is an awfully strong word...
I had read a few of the earlier post RotJ books while waiting for Episode 1, but as soon as the prequel EU sprang up, I became less interested in the ABY stuff. I did like the Timothy Zahn books with Mara Jade trying to lill Luke... those were good. They dragged a bit, bit they were enjoyable. "I Jedi" is also one of my faves.
Other than that, I haven't read any of the stuff you're talking about, so I can't say that I have a firm opinion on it. I'm familiar with many of the newer characters, but not with the stories...

Are you talking about all the new stuff with the vong? If so I really haven't been paying that much attention to them right now.
I,Jedi is one of my favorite books too! the older books I am enjoying more then the newer ones right now anyhow.

I haven't read much other than "I, Jedi". I do prefer the prequel area, though, which is why I haven't read further.
In one of the new "Last of the Jedi" books (for young readers), I think I remember Obi-Wan speculating that one of the downfalls of the Jedi was that attachments to loved ones was forbidden.

I have no love for the new republic Jedi either. The style that the Old Republic Jedi had was the perfect mix of traditional and futuristic attire, and they had a much more knoble attitude. Old Jedi are Jedi Knights, and the new Jedi are like mercenaries. But, the reason that the old Jedi failed is because of how much they stuck to tradition. Luke created a new breed of Jedi that would never fall under the same circumstances that poor Anakin did, because they are allowed to form attatchments. That of course creates an all new batch of problems though... Overall, the Old Jedi are far cooler and far more respectable, I'd pick them anyday

I agree seda the new jedi are more like assasins. I think if they just stuck to the original code there would not have been more bad guys after palpatine. And the whole deal with the vong is just stupid. I hate it when they come up with bad guys that are suppose to be stronger than the ones in the movies.

Very true. I prefer the old ways myself. Yet I see why Luke allowed attachments. If you step back you can see both sides. The old traditions were sound yet the jedi did fall for that one thing...attachements... Luke allows them but as is they do creat newer problems. Either way there was going to be problems no matter how it stands.

The thing to remember about the post EPVI books is luke is struggling to rebuild the Jedi Order with limited Knowledge and training. He as almost nothing to build on. As far as the Jedi code is concerned, I doubt Yoda had time to impart all the Code to luke, and in regards to emotional entanglements we all saw what happened with that policy. Many of us have discussed the emotional attachment issue in the old Masters Corner, also remember many of the new Jedi are, or were Adults when the began there training, and they already had families. The new Jedi Order is still in it's infancy, it is going through all the growing pains and moral dilemmas, especially having to go through a war with an enemy like the Vong. And as far as there acting less polished, less "Noble" you should think about the fact we only saw a small selection of Jedi behavior, maybe the best maybe not, but certainly not the only example.

*aplauds* WELL DONE!!!
I agree with that whole thing! FOr all we know the it could have been the same wwith the old republic. It's just not mentioned in the stories. Mabey it was similar as luke's position except without the vong. The Jedi then probably eventually came to the conclusion that having emotional attachements was a bad thing and changed it once they had enough jedi trained and could handle the situation.

I'm not really a fan of the post ROTJ EU, but I've ready a few. The books, etc. are generally well-written, which I appreciate, and I can see why people like them. Timothy Zahn really "got" all the OT characters down just right in his books. But I never really could care much about the villains he created, so I never went past his first book trilogy. And when they cloned the Emperor.....arg! Been there, defeated that. But I don't "hate" the post ROTJ EU; just because it's not my cup of tea doesn't mean I think it's bad.
What I like about the Old Republic Jedi is the outfits. I'm so shallow.
But now that we know what Old Republic Jedi wore, what I like about Luke's version of a Jedi outfit in ROTJ is that it looks so amateurish. It's as if he'd had holograms and descriptions of what Jedi wore and, not knowing anything about clothes, came up with something on his own. It's perfect.
