Thanks, Kai. My robe isn't lined, but I do hope to get that hood lined soon. The blade pocket is only about two inches wide, so it only took one long stitch down one side to attach it to the robe. I just put my stitch very close to the side stitch of the robe, where the front and back of the robe meet, and that disguises it very well. My robe is very dark, and I matched the thread pretty well, so you can't even notice it. I also stitched along the bottom two inches of that pocket at the bottom of the robe, and I tacked the top corner (by hand) so that the pocket lies flat. You really can't see it at all from the outside and it lets me keep my blade handy at functions. The only time it ever gives me any trouble is when I sit down, and then I just take the blade out of the pocket.

Thanks, Laan.
"one long stitch" ? you can't mean one stitch? That wouldn't hold the side closed.
The wool of my robe is very fine and would probably show the stitching. Actually, it occured to me I could use heavy-duty stitchwitchery (an iron on product for hemming).

Kai, "in one long stitch" You're right, that would seriously put my sewing skills into question, wouldn't it. No, I meant a long series of stitches in one long line. My outer robe is a dark, flannel wool so it was pretty easy to disuise the stitches. That is a great idea with the stitchwitchery. I made more progress on my belt last night. I ordered some edge dressing from Tandy to finish the edges of the leather. Once this belt is done I'm going to move on to a new tunic--can't wait! Laan

I made a pocket in mine for my blades but since I'm so short, they'd brush the ground or trip me up.

I think I would have that problem too, or else be poked in the underarm.

I'm going to try it. I'm only 5'2". I made the pocket, attaching it with heavy duty stitch witchery. I walked around the house and it seemed alright. The pocket goes from the hem to just slightly above the arm hole (armseye....can't spell that) of the left sleeve. It feels a little odd but, as far as I can tell in the mirror, doesn't show.
I'll let you know how it goes at the Con this weekend. Today I'm wearing Jocasta Nu, so no robe. Tomorrow and Sunday I'll wear standard Jedi.

Yeah! My first contribution. Let me know how it goes, Kai. Mine did feel a little funny, since the weight was a little out of balance. It's just that I saw people who had to choose between no blade and lightsaber hanging from belt, lightsaber with blade but always in their hand, or lightsaber with blade slid through the belt like a sword without a sheath. I put up with the slight awkwardness to have the options. I'm 6'3'', though, so I guess it's easy for me to be flippant about it.

Yes, I've had that dilemma, I have a hilt that hangs on the belt, plan to get a better on sooner or later. Apparntly the bosses have ordered a MR/EL at the last trade show, so I'll be getting one of those, but won't want to carry it around all the time, they're heavy, so I still will need another type as well. It will come in it's proper time, I need boots first and foremost, the boots I wear with my long robe are to short for wearing with a shorter tunic, though I might try doing a pair of tops for those and seeing how that works.

My saber has the OT D-ring hanger. I was able to try out my new belt last night after I assembled it for a "dry run." It's not completely dyed yet so I'll have to take it apart again to finish it. I couldn't resist hanging my saber from the new belt and walking around with it last night!

Yeah, it feels great. Although it's not finished, I enjoyed seeing how it feels with the saber hanging from it. It also let me know that I'm on the right track with my new design. I decided over a year ago to make a new costume, but I wanted to wait until we got closer to Episode III, expecting there to be new Jedi costumes and new ideas. I'm glad I waited, because in the meantime there was KOTOR, Jedi Academy, and of course, the Jedi Assembly to inspire me!

I wore the robe with the blade pocket all over the Con on Saturday. It worked fine. And I can even sit down with it.

That's cool, maybe I'll try that trick when I get a LS w/ removable blade. I forgot to ask my boss today about the MR order, so I still don't know what they ordered, my guess it's the Luke that's out in May, I hope so, I like that one, Green blade.

Excellent, Kai, I'm glad it worked out for you. How's the stitchwitchery holding up?

I used the heavy duty version and it withstood one day of walking around. We'll see how it does at ComicCon....probably I'll take the roll with me just in case I need to re-inforce!
