Schph, we went and did a little fabric swatching on sat. I have some samples that I'm going to send, including 2 shades of non-existant brown linen. $5.00 a yd, 60"wide. Lots of other stuff also.

I really am frustrated.... I expanded my search a little yesterday by making some phone calls (rather than running all over the place)... first one I called...."No...we don't carry linen" second...."no....we don't have that"... GRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! I am going to try a few more places....I don't have a line on many more to try....and then....if I can't find anything...I am going to ask you to get it for me....but I still have like two places to call.

Guess what I found in my closet when I cleaned it out. Some old wool Army blankets My mum and dad said they had more from when we were in search and rescue. Only trouble do some people really make robes out of that stuff the color is kinda weird and they seem like they wouldn't flow well and seem kinda hevy they just sorta hang their. Any thoughts Nova?

I know which ones you are talking about...my Dad had a few of them when he was alive....haven't a clue what happened to them...
Yes, the color would be an off color....but in a way...it is not too off... still an earthy color...

The color is diffrent but yeah youre right it is very earthy I just always se military green. I wasn't thinkin earth. it would work good for a first robe and I'd stay pretty warm. It seems pretty hevy but that might be ok.

I found this really cheap fabric at Wal Mart, but it's white. I bought 20 yards of it so that I can mess around with it. I'm going to try dying it, I really hope that it works! I'll tell everyone how it comes out!

Yes Jade, Army blankets will work for a Robe, they will drape and flow if cut and gathered properly, if they are wool, and not a blend or synthetic, you can even dye them, if you want to try that, I reccomend cutting off a test piece and giving it a dunk in some dye (try a dark brown) see if it takes. Aaires, as for the cheap white fabric, it should take a dye just fine if it is a natural fiber, or mostly natural fiber, TRY A TEST PIECE! If it doesn't take, use it to test sew patterns, or try to dye it with TEA, (test dye a piece first) the tea will only make it a light shade of tan, make lots of very strong tea, soak pieces of fabric in the tea bath, you can't do big pieces or they will splotch and streak, let me know how it goes.

*shrugs and grins* Dunno about you guys but my robe was the easiest part of my costume, I am working on a Correllian Jedi costume for my friends next annual Star Wars Party in july, and joy of joys, my Death's Robe I'm making for halloween, will be a perfect recycle for the black outer robe I plan to have over the Green tunics and obi, and the leather look of the fabric makes a more dangerous, almost biker jedi look

Off-topic question here: Correllian Jedi costume? Is this New Republic? And what's it look like?
