You must choose your own path ... No one can choose it for you.

my path is my own decision, but the path of this community partly lies in yours. all i did was make a suggestion for growth and expansion, and i got jumped on by atleast 4 people, may unintentionally, but non the less stomped on, as the kids these days say

I disagree that you were stomped on. It was explained again in many different ways. You must realize you are not the first one to come in and debate or try and steer the organization towards thier own expectations.
You may think your suggestions not being considered makes this place some how less accomadating or as you put it, "not as friendly", but neither would you find any such place that would review something for the Nth time, that has been talked about many times prior.
When someone says you should choose your own path, it is neither rude or condesending, merely an open arm policy, as any group. There is no rules on whom you must be affiliated with in this world, but there is rules about what you need to do to be affliated.
I am a member of here, the Rebel Legion and the 501st, standards are great, and TJA has the best Prequel policy around. There is no deviance from what is shown in all three films from the myriad of jedi showcased...and I am not talking about baseing our costumes after Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan, because really, in TPM alone you have the most of the Jedi council wearing similar garb, with few exceptions.
This is indeed one of the better costuming groups I am apart of, and you will never find a better Jedi only group, if that is where you want your path to lead.
I do not believe it is the Jedi Assemblies need to have every single Jedi costumer under our banner, merely we want to have the best darn Prequel costumes represented. Many people work hard at this credo alone.

Ohh...ohhh...I want to be Darth Siri if we do ranks!! Oops...that is from the book I'm reading now !!!!! Actually it is a really good book ( Darth Bane: Path of Destruction - it just came out). The sith had a set up like the Jedi about 1000 years BBY. All of them were lords or masters, none took the title Darth since it meant superiority and all of the others (including the Jedi) would be gunning for them. By all of them being just Lords or Masters it made them more equal...no big title to create strife in the group. It worked until Bane came along...... Okay...I admit I'm a huge geek...I love to read EU books

primrodo, did you by any chance read the second page? more specifically the posts by mon jas charin, olos nay, and koda vonnor?
mon jas basically said if i didnt like the way things were run, to go somewere else. i'm still clueless as to the point in koda's post, especially the use of that term "wicked kool", and it seems like a rant, more than advice. and olos nay seemed to be under the impression i wanted the organization to change for me.
all i did was make a suggestion. so what what if it has been made before. wouldnt it have been easier to just link to a previous discussion of it, or said "thanks for the suggestion, but..."
in my forum admin past, i learned early that although you sit infront of a screen, you still must know public relations. if you have a topic that keeps coming up, but have already made a decision on it, to make a thread called "frequently asked questions" and include it there, and make it sticky so its always on the first page seen in the sub forum.

and as i said, yes i did, do i need to define suggestion? i guess i will:
suggestion [suhg-jes-chuhn]- noun
the calling up in the mind of one idea by another by virtue of some association or of some natural connection between the ideas.

Not to worry, Methos. I, too, was "jumped on" a bit for a question once. It is hurtful to see negative responses to an idea that is both thought out and logical and that can easily come across as an attack. The bottom line is simply that the TJA has set rules and regulations and they will not bend or even break to accomodate me, you, or anyone else. Let us examine a quick comparison of quotes... all i did was make a suggestion. i did all the reading i could handle, but is change such a bad thing? maybe i will join the sith, this place is not as friendly as one would think. and Fair enough. It was a simple question. The condescending tone was rather unnecessary in the above response. I sought an answer, not an exception to pre-existing rules and regulations. It is most unfortunate that my existing ensemble is unacceptable to current TJA standards and guidelines. It is disappointing that the current regulations are so constrictive and limiting. Yes, there are other costuming organizations in existance that allow greater freedom and creativity in the presentation of a Jedi ensemble. Often times, though, people desire the exclusivity and even speciality of belonging to an exclusively Jedi costuming group. Unfortunately, only one such organization exists. It was an unfortunate mistake to assume that this group mirrored the fictional organization after which it was modelled and that it might assume the same level of acceptance as did that august body. As you can see, our responses were similar and we both conveyed the conclusion that the TJA guidelines are restrictive and that we both received responses that were less than cordial. The perhaps unfortunate thing that we must realize and accept is that we did not set up the rules and neither are we going to change them. And while we may have a vision of how we would like things to be and while we may wish the TJA to be more inclusive and accepting of new policy we must accept things as they are. After all, we and everyone that comes after us with questions and suggestions, are outsiders here. We are the ones seeking admission to the TJA and so it is their rules that we must accept and follow, not the reverse. Let us remember the Code... "There is no emotion, there is peace. There is no passion, there is serenity. There is no ignorance, there is knowledge..." We can choose to be upset about these sort of things or we can accept them. Which choice would a true Jedi make, my friend?

Methos... I am sorry if you feel agressed by the reaction to your suggestion, but the fact is that the topic pops in every other month and is covered by the Jedi Code by wich the full fledge members need to abide.
Another fact that needs to be known is that for many members who contested the Jedi Code before they even joined the Assembly there has been bad experiences afterward; by making the facts crystal clear the Assembly prevents such problems from happening. You must understand that the Jedi Council had to demote former Jedi Knights before because of similar activities, and a firm but polite response now might replace things in order to prevent future disaster.
You of all others, as a former forum admin, should understand.

thank you nassik, its good to see insight, and your right, thank you.
however olos, as a former forum admin, i NEVER used such tactics to clear up problems. on my forum, we had monthy council meetings, were ideas that were brought up in the suggestions forum would be talked about and decided on. for example, we had a issue such as this very one about the length of a robe(i ran a clerical clothing forum) for altar servers, should it go to the floor, or 5 inches above? it was a monthy question. what i did, was i put it in the frequently asked questions section, and made the note "the decision on this issue is made on a monthly basis depending on new points of view, until it is decided for a final point that cannot be disputed." meaning it wasnt a solid no, but it wasnt a solid yes either. i had no problems with that, and neither did the forum members.
i've made my decision to help the dark alliance as it looks like they need more help than the TJA. i'm going to assemble a sith costume, but make it adaptable to join the rebel legion as a NJO jedi. i will continue to post here as much as i can to my hearts desire, but this instance has just given me a bad view of this place. maybe in time things will change, for me or the order, but right now, i embrace the dark side.

This has been interesting discussion... I joined TJA for the reasons of what TJA put in their code. I felt I was a good canidate for this type of group. I worked hard on my Costume (Prequel Jedi..light side). I respect the code, and will abide by it. Those who do not want to abide by the Code set down can check other Costuming groups that cater to the Rank system or to your needs as a costumer. Thank you for showing interest, and I hope your will find a group that you can adapt to and your suggestion will change that group on what you want.. Maybe you can start your own club...or group.. Peace, Quick2

Groups are begun to suit the needs of their founders, when those founders were not satified with what was available. That's how TJA was formed, and that's how groups are formed in general, on any level. Even if you don't plan on joining this club, we welcome anyone who wishes to use these forums to gain knowledge on the construction of their costume... regardless of what color it will be!
