People have been talking for a while now about how we can get TJA's name out there and drum up some good publicity for ourselves. That's what this thread is for. Ideas on how to do that.
One way is to call your local newspapers, tell them about the club, and see if they would like to do an article on you in your costume. I never would have thought of this unless my mom mentioned it! And it worked. I am in two local newspapers. Some members have been approched to be interviewed, which is cool!
Another way is to submit pictures of you and local Jedi at Cons to the SW Insider. Leda built a cool snow Vader and submitted it to the Insider, and now she's in it!
Any other ideas?

I would suggest that you contact your local Children's hospital and offer to show up in Jedi costume for the kids. Then contact local paper or news station and tell them about TJA and let them come and take pictures. Also, WalMart is a good place for charity work for Children's Miracle Network. Talk to the GM, offer to show up in costume for donations for pictures, call local paper or news station for coverage.

Those members from the Northern Order who are attending ConnectiCon this year could goof around with the New England garrison, since they have a table there.

When you do events like ROTS bring flyers and cards, our local Fan Force got many inquires from seeing some of us in costume.

When we did our display for the Premiere of ROTS we were on every major television network for three days and the local newspaper did two articles on us. One reporter pulled my information and bio off TJA. This was added to the article. I was the coordinator for the premiere and handled most of the press contacts. We are now being requested to appear at many functions throughout our region. I am scheduled to conduct a lecture for the upcoming Fantasci convention on the Science of Star Wars. The publicity however is for our Fanforce The Tidewater Alliance. Although TJA was printed in the paper our club has members of 501st, RL, The Sith Syndicate as well as TJA.
Promoting any club requires strategy and the right coordinator who has experience and contacts. If the right word goes out, as with our fanforce then it is possible to gain all the best attention for the club. If the wrong direction is taken then the club only looks bad and becomes an object of ridicule. Since I have had over twenty five newspaper articles written about me as a reenactor along with several television appearences I have gained some insight into this process. I have never really been sure why I have been selected over and over again when there are many exceptional reenactors in our area but I have brought that experience to the promotion of our club. Ironically, I ended up in the newspaper and on television for CIII as well. Sometimes it is just being in the right place at the right time.
I suggest finding someone to handle the promotion of TJA and develope a strategy with a set of goals outlining what is the desired achievement. This person can then act as liason with the local individuals in every order who are conducting or participating in functions and also issue press releases. The promoter can also provide written materials to keep the promotion moving in the right directions and stay within the desired goals. I am sure there are many within TJA that would volunteer to perform this function.

I found out about the assembly when I saw the name on your booth's banner at Celebration III. So, when I got home, I took a look.

I talked to Dany Pepin, producer of Star Wars en Direct, an internet radio show about Star Wars fandom. He showed interest in interviewing Tanthos on the show. They broadcast every week on Tuesdays... For more info you can look at Star Wars en Direct.

Now THAT would be cool! Why don't you e-mail him this link. He's at the beach right now, but when he gets back and checks his e-mail, I'm sure he'll be interested.

I have tried to make a practice out of always including my affiliation with The Jedi Assembly. Some of the good things: As noted in the Midwest Order....a lady from Central DuPage Hospital contacted me to visit a young leukemia patient because she found The Jedi Assembly through Google. Our visit with Isaac was successful...and the DuPage folks have my name on file should they need us in the future. Our presence as the Jedi Assembly was noted last Saturday at a performance of the DuPage Symphony... and we Jedi were mobbed with kids. I have a link to the Jedi Assembly in my signature at the Fan Force. I have also appeared as a member of TJA at Bantha Tracks. Right now, Jedi Mom has been in contact with the Museum in Ohio that will be getting that new exhibit that combines Star Wars with modern technology.....as soon as more information is secured, we hope that TJA members will flock to Ohio in force for a road trip for the opening of this exhibit. I held a sewing class at my house recently and talked about TJA and membership requirements. To everyone...always try to slip TJA into any Star Wars event...and make sure to do us proud.. The hard work and dedication of all TJA members was certainly noted at CIII.... I posted the final results of our Charity Jedi costume in a thread at the 501st (one that asked 501st members to stop by and purchase raffle tickets for Katie)...and a post by some members noted... "this group (TJA) rocks!" ;D
