well from a book i was reading, the entire story is about Mace. They tell where hes coming from but not how he do his evolution as a Jedi. But i guess from Younglin to padawan to Jedi to Master and how he got to the high council.... I guess via the same way than Obiwan.

From StarWars.com Databank:
Homeworld: Haruun Kal Species: Human Gender: Male Height: 1.88 meters Weapon: Lightsaber Affiliation: Jedi Council Though a member of the High Council since the age of 28, this did not dull Windu's fighting edge or his willingness to venture forth on dangerous missions. His exploits are legendary, and he was an inspiration to his fellow Jedi, leading through rigorous example and steady discipline. In his day, Mace was one of the best lightsaber fighters of the Jedi order. It was said only two opponents ever bested him -- Yoda, and Dooku. Only the most skilled of the Jedi could master the his Form VII discipline of combat -- the deadly technique known as vaapad -- for its aggressive nature treaded dangerously upon dark side practices.
Among his better-known assignments in the service of the Republic was an expedition to Yinchorr to investigate the deaths of two Jedi. Also, Windu spearheaded a diplomatic mission to Malastare, to forge a truce between the Red Iaro terrorist group and the people of Lannik. Shortly thereafter he uncovered illegal animal trade on Nar Shaddaa involving akk dogs -- deadly yet beloved predators native to Mace's homeworld of Haruun Kal.
One of Mace's numerous apprentices was the Chalactan Jedi Depa Billaba. Under his skilled tutelage, Billaba became a remarkable Jedi, ascending to rank of Master herself and earning a place on the Jedi Council beside her former Master. Another of his Padawans was Echuu Shen-Jon, a Jedi who would ultimately survive the dark times.
The Clone Wars were a trying time for Windu, as he had to adapt to the new role of the Jedi as military leaders. Not all the Jedi agreed with their positions as Generals in the wars, and a group of dissident Jedi splintered from the order. When Mace went to parley with these dissidents, he found himself in the jaws of a trap -- the meeting was a set-up. Asajj Ventress, an agent of Count Dooku, attacked Windu. Though Asajj was outmatched and fled, Mace Windu reported this new threat to the Jedi Council. It was further evidence of the rising tide of the dark side.
Four months into the Clone Wars, Mace led clone troopers against Confederacy forces that had amassed on Dantooine. The Separatists planned on securing a launch-point on Dantooine to defend the nearby world of Muunilinst, and hoped to prevent the Republic from doing the same. Mace's troops were decimated by the terrible power of a seismic tank, and even though he was temporarily disarmed in the confusion of the battlefield, Mace was able to single-handedly defeat the droid forces and destroy the tank.
Six months into the Clone Wars, Mace Windu received a disturbing report that his former Padawan, Depa Billaba, had possibly gone mad on the battlefront of Haruun Kal. He returned to the inhospitable jungles of his homeworld to seek out the rogue Jedi, and got a firsthand look at the horrors of the Clone Wars.
From Wookieepedia:
Mace Windu was originally from the planet Haruun Kal, where he was born into the Ghôsh Windu. Following the death of his parents, he was turned over to the Jedi Order when he was six standard months old. Like all in the Order, the young Korun boy was taught by Master Yoda when he was a learner, and eventually went on to become a Padawan to another Jedi.[1] Mace trained under T'ra Saa at one point, though the extent of that training is unknown.[10]
At a very early age, Mace learned of his unusual ability to see shatterpoints in the Force and how they would affect all of his future actions as well as the vulnerabilities of his opponents. With these unique abilities, he had glimpses of parts of his future, such as the lightsaber he would eventually build.[1]
By age fourteen, the Jedi Council was concerned with Mace, for even though he was at the top of his class, he still could not construct the lightsaber that came to him in visions multiple times. He informed the Council that he wanted a true challenge in order to find the best pieces for his lightsaber. After considering this, the Council sent Mace on his own to the world of Hurikane. While on this mission, Mace was at first chased away by the natives that resided there, but was easily able to resist them using the Force. When he caused one of the fragile natives to shatter, he sobered, and painstakingly restored it using the Force. Learning a valuable lesson about being a Jedi, the natives rewarded him with a violet-colored special crystal. He used this crystal to construct the lightsaber he had seen in his visions and it produced its distinctive violet blade.[11] He would alternate between this weapon and a blue lightsaber he created himself. He also used Eeth Koth's lightsaber, which he obtained when the two Jedi Masters exchanged their sabers during the sacred Concordance of Fealty.[12]
Mace defeats Uda-Khalid.Over the next decade and a half, Mace went on many notable missions that included his first visit to his homeworld, Haruun Kal (during which he learned his native Korun language),[1] and one where he tracked down and defeated the killer Uda-Khalid.[13] During his career, Windu trained many to be Jedi, including Echuu Shen-Jon (who ultimately survived the Great Jedi Purge), and fellow Council member Depa Billaba.[5]
Prodigiously talented in the Force, Mace passed the trials early, and continued to progress through the ranks of the order by achieving the title of Jedi Master and, at the remarkably young age of twenty-eight, was appointed to the Jedi Council. The Council's invitation came after Windu's exploits during the Arkanian Revolution where he fought the cyborg Gorm the Dissolver.[14] As a senior member of the Council, his lightsaber hilt would be uniquely decorated with electrum, a precious metal.[5]
Windu meets with his fellow Jedi Councillors and the Supreme Chancellor. As well as his incredible combat abilities, Windu also possessed a rare gift. He had a unique form of Force perception which allowed him to see the shatterpoint in situations, beings and circumstances. These shatterpoints revealed points upon which other things were reliant. Shatterpoints could form links between beings, creatures, planets, or other vessels, and if destroyed or utilized, these shatterpoints could hold the key to averting disaster, sealing fate, winning battles and fulfilling the very will of the Force itself.[1]
In addition to being a legendary warrior and remarkably Force-sensitive, Windu possessed extensive knowledge of Jedi history and philosophy, and was known for his diplomatic abilities. Windu was the Council's primary liaison to the Chancellor, although the Clone Wars caused him to question his firmest beliefs.[5]
Windu presides over a Jedi Council meeting. As a Jedi Master and member of the Council, Windu stayed active, spearheading many diplomatic and peace-keeping missions, including ones to Yinchorr and Malastare.[12][15] He would also assist in the mediation of the Stark Conflict.[16] Another such mission was to Nar Shaddaa, where Windu, accompanied by his former Padawan Depa Billaba, was investigating an animal-smuggling ring. As he was surrounded by a large number of thugs, his former Padawan Depa Billaba arrived to help him, and they made short work of their assailants. They eventually located the source of the smuggling, but only after fighting a number of deranged akk dogs originally from Haruun Kal.[12] Windu and Billaba would eventually end up together on Haruun Kal, with tragic results.[1]
