Hey all! What do you make of ObiWan's new fighting stance shown in ROTS-saber pointed above head and two fingers pointed toward opponent? He uses that three times but never against Anakin. Wonder what style this is and who came up with it? See it's small things like this that I wish were explained on the DVD.....

Yeah, its a pretty aggressive stance, which doesnt really match Obi Wan's fighting style, but it sure looks cool

Humm it reminds me of a stance used in "Crotching Tiger, Hidden Dragon". Maybe it's inspired by some Chinese martial art form.

Well it is Lucas we're talking about..Something he probably decided to have us figure it out.. I think it means something besides his form/stance.

Obi-Wan's been fighting a war for three years. It makes sense that his fighting style would have gotten more aggressive. Doesn't he do something similar to that stance with Anakin?

Once when Anakin and him are fighting Grevious over Coruscant and twice with Grevious on Utapau.

With those 2 fingers extended, it always looked to me like he was ready to use the Force. Like maybe a Force Push or something, even though he doesn't do that then. But he's ready!

Could be a feigned force push... but on Utapau, he uses it against one of Grevious' soldiers and it doesn't work, so he had to try something else... he released that big thing from the ceiling to crush him. There's a scene on Naboo where Obi uses the two finger Force push, just not as aggressively.
I also noticed that in each Ep III fight, Obi-Wan is the one to ignite his saber first.

I don't think he's pushing. It's a focusing point for the force.

Yeah, I don't think when Obi-Wan took his stance against Grievous and his minions he was trying to use the Force. He was just focusing and getting ready to use it.
Is that what those stances do for a Jedi? Focusing the Force? Interesting possibility.

I think it was the equivelent of the 'come get some' gesture Neo makes when he fights. The stances aren't so much focusing the Force, but the gestures Jedi make are for focussing their mind to controll the Force. On the Sam Niell remake of Merlin, his tutor said that there were three levels of magicians: Word Wizards (who have to cast spells to use their powers [the Force]), Hand Wizards (who use gestures to use their powers) and Thought Wizards (who only have to think to use their powers) Jedi fall in the 'power range' of Hand Wizards, as even the most powerfull, like Master Yoda, Anakin or Palpatine still have to use 'gestures of influence' to use the Force, it is very rare to see a Jedi actually consistently use the Force through thought alone, with no gesture of influence. [Edit to add] Ten bonus points to the first person to know which video game 'Come Get Some!!!' is a quote from

I think it is from either Mortal Kombat or Killer Instinct and I agree with you on the thing about the force stances and the way Obi-Wan is using it
