Now we all know when ROTS was gonan come around, Padme was gonna die, and Anakin/Vader was gonna be upset. But, in my opinion, Vader's long and obnoxious "nnnnNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOooooo" kinda of made me urk. I mean most of everyone says "no" when they're that upset and have lost a loved one, but who doesn't make fun of long annoying and cliche "nnooooooooooo"s in entertainment anymore. If I were Lucas, I would have left it at the growling Vader did as he busted free of his restraints and made it into a longer scratchy-throated scream. But, that might be just me......any thoughts on this?

Definitely the weakest scene in the movie for me. Borderline embarrassing. Especially the Frankenstein's monster imitation of Vader coming off the operating table. Now granted it was Vader's first steps with artificial legs, and Hayden was doing the scene with something like 5 or 6 inch lifts (to make up the difference in height between himself and David Prowse)- but it still looked silly. Totally agree with how you say the scene should have went- Vader should have broken the restraints with the Force instead of muscling his way off the table, and had an extended scream. Might have been chilling done right. In fact the only redeeming part of the whole sequence are the lines before the Frankenvader fiasco: Vader asking about Padme nearly moved me to tears, and the Emperor shows one of perhaps the only moments of caring for someone other than himself with his "Lord Vader... Can you hear me?" line.

I agree. Hayden also had a helmet with extra weight put in it to make him top heavy - not necessary. I would have gone for the more internal anger, sort of have had Vader break out, then as he is about to scream drop down on one knee and stare at the floor... then stand up in the traditional Vader pose, with a very faint glow of his burning eyes through the mask. But thats just me Did anyone else think that the way he crossed his arms when he was staring at the Death Star looked very awkward? They should have gotten Prowse to do it.

Hayden also had a helmet with extra weight put in it to make him top heavy - not necessary. And you heard this where? I love the scene, personally. Hearing the suited Vader ask about Padmé is the most emotional moment in the Saga for me. Then it's capped off with an equally emotional outburst of hate and anger, then sorrow at the acceptance of the truth. People like to run this scene through the mud, but if you look at it objectively you'll notice every single frame is delibrately done. The 'frankenstein'-walk is Vader's first steps in his new legs. We didn't exactly see Luke or Anakin use their new hand and arm extrordinarily well after their respective surgeries. Did people expect him to leap off the table and start tap dancing? I've seen plenty of the parody websites which take the "noooo" audio and place it in funny situations. I find those hilarious but I cannot find any humor or "embarrassment" in it while watching it in its context. I guess I get too wrapped up in the story. Just my two cents.

And you heard this where? In an interview with Hayden on a chat show here called Rove Live.

I didn't like the "no" either. I do understand him walking the way he did. I'm sure he was worn out from being injured, transported then operaited on. From the looks of it, it appears he wasn't sedaited. Unless his was in so much pain the painkillers they had couldn't tone it down much.

The "nnnoooooooo" didn't really bother me much. If it was good enough for Obi-Wan and Luke, Vader could have one, too. What really sounded ODD to me was Palpatine--no Lord Sidious--sounding like he CARED when he asked Lord Vader if he could hear him. That was just weird.
Vader looking clumsy and unstable when he first tore himself away from the table were unusual for that character, but unavoidable. Those were brand new legs that he was stumbling on and it just would have been too perculiar for him to have any of the imposing stride we first saw him use in ANH.

I had no problems with the "No", but then that's because that's how I would have reacted.

I think the only reason people have a problem with the NOOOO is because they're not used to Vader react in that way. If you think of it as Anakin, then that exactly the kind of reaction someone might expect. As for Palpatine caring about Vader... When Vader staggers away from the table, it cuts from the wide shot to a shot of Palpatine framed by Vader's torso. As he starts to scream, Palpatine starts to grin...

Ah yes, Palpatine grinning....that's the Sith Lord we expect. But his initial question to Vader sounded unusually concerned. I suppose it's possible that Palpatine cares. But methinks he cares more about power in the end.
Sidious actually sounded glad when he talked about Anakin becoming more powerful than he was. Power is everything, even if it's not his. Then when Vader got knocked down to cyborg status he knew his position was secure.
True. You do need to think of Vader's first words in "the suit" in the context of Anakin and NOT the mature Darth Vader we first see in ANH. Even though he's got the outfit, he's still in transition.

It just looked over-acted (if that's possible from a man wearing a full suit of armour). It might as well have been Marlon Brando screaming... STELLLAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! Vader "growling" while he was still on the operating table was much more convincing. Luke and Obi-wan's NOOOOOs were not seen as goofy as they directly conveyed what the audience was feeling when Qui-Gon was struck down, Ben was struck down, and Vader revealed that he was Luke's father. For some reason the feeling of pain and loss just doesn't work this time.

I think it may just be James Earl Jones' voice. As an ominous and cold character his voice works perfectly, but I think that overly emotional and expressive acting may not be his forte

I'm not so sure about that, because Palpatine would have accepted the Sith tradition of the apprentice killing the master, but in the novelizations, it says that he was actually dissapointed that Anakin was so terribly maimed, because it meant that he would never be as powerful as he could have become (even if that might have meant Palpatine's end) I think if anything, the problem Palpatine had was with Count Dooku, because he seemed intent on taking new students (Assaj Ventress and General Grievous) and continuing in his role of a tutor, rather than accepting the more subservient role as Palpatine's apprentice.
