I went to my first ever convention this past weekend. It was the CONvergence here in Minnesota. It was so cool!
I actually just helped out in our MN Fan Force room and then walked around and checked out the other clubs rooms. I didn't even go to the actual convention part of it. The costumes were crazy...so were many of the people and rooms. What a fun time!!!
Now I'm excited to go to another convention. It's like reading EU books and costuming...once you get started into it.... you get hooked!! ;D

You are so right, Jenny. I had once gone to this star wars exhibit in San Francisco when I was 14. They had a lot of things on display, I think it was the stuff that got sent to the Smithonium in Washington. But my first real convention was in 1999 before Episode 1 came out, it was Celebration 1 in Denver, Cololrado. I had a blast! I didn't have a costume at that time, but it was so cool to be around so many people that I didn't know but who loved star wars just as much as I did. I didn't get a chance to see too many actors at that event, but I did get to meet Anthony Daniels, Ray Park and Rick McCallum. I still have a pic of me and him. I had so much fun.
I missed Celebration 2 due to financial problems, so I was really bummed about that. Celebration 3 was just incredible. The whole experience I probably won't be able to put in words. Nowadays, I try to make it to smaller events here locally when I can. I want to try and go to DragonCon this year, but will have to see what my monetary situation looks like.
But going back to what Jenny was saying, once I am at a convention, either small or large, in costume or not, I never want to leave, you know. It's like going to that galaxy far far away, and not wanting to come back home. I am totally hooked to conventions and will never want to stop going to them.

I just went to my first convention this weekend as well. InConJunction in Indianapolis. It was the greatest experience I've had in costume so far. Feel free to ask me some questions becasue I love talking, but I never know what the people want to hear.

airplane? Oh, ok... I suppose from MN you would need an air transport of some kind. Kidding ... I'm hoping to fly there this year myself. Never take grayhound... never...never...never... I got my sister hooked on DragonCon... She not a SW fan, but she now has LotR costumes and a Mina Harker costume from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. We have to go for fangs before D*C. It's like 4/5 days of surreality... it's like... coming home! You never want to leave!

Dragon Con in Atlanta GA, is like the Mardi Gras of costume conventions! This September will be my fourth year in a row going. I had the pleasure of meeting Leda and Jauhzmynn last year. You are never going to experience a convention like this anywhere! Up to 40 000 people attend per day- and roughly 1/8th are not in costume! As Leda said- it's surreal. The only disappointment is that it is only 4 days- I wish it could be a month long! I usually bring three costumes with me- here are some pics from 2005: In my Jedi robes with a great Darth Maul. In my US Colonial Marines gear (from "Aliens"). And with Master Leda Em-Borr in my Wrath of Khan captain's uniform. If you can swing it Siri, make plans to go! There are many members of the TJA going this year- You will love it! ;D The info is all here: www.dragoncon.org/

It looks like a ton of people...and tons of fun from your pics! I just yahoo'd it and found the site. I'm going to have to check it out. So a bunch of Jedi are planning on going?
