is any one a potter fan here? since the 5th movie and 7th book are coming out next month, my age range is in a fantasical uproar. i grew up with potter, and still have the wild day dreams of wand waving and broom flying.more recently, it gave the writer's dam a break, and for the last two weeks, i've been writing a fan fiction thats just been pouring out of me. 2 weeks, 35 pages, 28,737 words, and i still have alot to go. i'm almost waiting to see if potter fans will be brandishing wands in the movie house lines this time around...

I haven't noticed the impeding Potter event affecting my fan fiction writing. I try to be steady with that. But since my fan fics tend to be of the SW/Jedi type, it seems reasonable that it would be disassociated from Harry Potter.
My question is, should I read the last book fast or slow? My sister plans on just reading it straight through -- after she reads the last chapter first. Ack! But she does that for all books she reads anyway.
Do I want to make Book 7 last a little bit? Avoid spoilers and enjoy the text? Unfortunately, it might become very difficult after the first few weeks. It's going to be all over the news what happens at the end, and not just on the internet!

i'de had my copy of book 7 reserved since april, and were i reserved it from, i dont have to get in line, i can walk in at 10 am, go straight to the counter, pick up my copy and go. i'm ignoring every news broad cast until i finish it. and i'll read it cover to cover and relish it.
what i'm writing now is pretyt much my first serious fan fiction. i started it at the start of book 5,and i've been pouring through the potter lexicon for dates, names, histories, events. its actually coming along nicely, and accurately.

We're DEFINITELY HP fans. We're certainly all looking forward to both the book and the movie release. We usually do the midnight book purchase thing, but this year we happen to be leaving to drive to FL for a family vacation the day of the release, so probably won't get to do it for this one. I hate that, considering it's the last one :-( Since we'll be driving such a long way with lots of my family, we will actually be purchasing a few copies of the book so several of us can be reading during the trip! My 2 boys (13 & 15) will be reading, then my wife and I.
We'll most likely do the midnight IMAX viewing on opening day for the movie, though! The most recent movie trailers I've seen look amazing. A friend an local Star Wars fan is the manager at the local IMAX, so we should have no trouble seeing it opening night!

"Is anyone a potter fan here?" Oh, yes. public.fotki.com/Kait/other_costuming/professor_mcgonagal/and for all the Potter events: public.fotki.com/Kait/other_costuming/ (ignore the last album, which is Firefly). The associated Star Wars groups in Seattle have an informal Harry Potter costuming group. We've volunteered, in costume, to entertain the folk in line at our Science Center's IMAX for all the HP films. I find it interesting that with only once exception, all the Stormtroopers are Slytherin.

Those are GREAT! The Firefly stuff looks very cool, too! I wish we had a local group that was also into Firefly. It's about the only series that I have about as much passion for as SW.

Thanks. I'm going to wear it to the book release. If we do the IMAX again, I'll wear my "standard" McGonagall so I can sort the kids in line.

We have a firefly or Browncoats here group. Just haven't been on their boards lately, or much here and other places. I haven't written fan fiction in years--I write my own orginal fiction and nonfiction and promoting that . But I have the book reserved and already prepaid at a local genre bookstore like done last ones and waiting for the book and their annual HP party. I usually judge costumes for it. JMD Published author now and proud of it.

My new McGonagall brooch came today www.curiousgood.com/?page_id=12 I wasn't expecting it to have colored stones as I thought it was just silver with amber stones. However, the maker explained that she has official references from WB as she is licensed and that's what the reference docs indicate.

looks awesome Kai. i've been debating putting together a pre- mauled-by-fenrir bill costume for the local borders book release party, but with the lack of people my own age there, i'm having doubts...

Awesome McGonagall, Kai! Unfortunately, the only person on the Potter universe who I look like is Draco's mother. Eeeeesh. Not sure I'm interested in that, but who knows with the next book?
I still need to make a school robe one of these days. I do have a Hufflepuff patch for it, but I'm dithering over what the proper colors are.
