My truck does pretty well. It costs more to fill up mom's car than mine. It's another eason we call it the "Rocket Ship". Unless her gauge is busted. It's too much car for her, but great for me to take on long drives! She liked Dotty's car better, but it was older and needed fixing and my brother wanted her take this car back, the saga goes on............. So now's she's stuck with the Rocket Ship. Ah, family! ;D

Yep, 70 miles a day! It was the trade off for Solorad moving back to FL with me. He only has to drive about 3 miles to work. Its cheaper for us this way though, and I get the added benefit of only living 10 mins from my parents and various brothers. So, I deal with it. Plus, I really don't want to live any closer to school...it's not exactly in the best of neighborhoods! Yes, family, aren't they lovely sometimes Xana? LOL!

70 miles!? Your commute is as bad as mine! I have to drive at least an hour and a half to go to work daily, which is usually to the crummy parts of the urban sprawl to the south of me (NYC).

I have to go through the crummy parts too, Cal! It stinks, but the payoff is I am lucky enough to go to a school affliated with a county hospital, which offers a excellent medical education. I'm not a medical student myself, but the medical school also has an excellent bioscience graduate program (where I am a student ;D). And the campus itself is pretty secure, so I don't worry too much about it. Only on the short drive from campus to the highway, and only when I have to be at school late at night. My drive is about an hour with traffic...it was bad at first, but I hardly think about it anymore. Helps that I get to pick my own hours, more or less, so I can time it to miss most of the traffic . Only problem with going in a little later though is I have to stay later . Oh well, I'd rather sleep late anyway!!

Shoshana : Toyota now has an SUV hybrid. It's the Highlander and is reputed to get about 60mpg. I've not test driven it yet and don't know what it costs compared to a regular version. It's a small SUV and Consumer Reports wrote it up in their section on the return of station wagons.
If I get the promotion for which I've applied, it means my husband and I will no longer work at the same division and won't be able to car pool. So we'll be investigating it.
