Thaks for teh thought. I should keep up on this more.
<sigh> Nerf isn't doing as well as had hoped. He's got blood in his spit again and is having shortness of breath. Plus he just feels pretty lousy. Signs appear to me that his disease is flaring up again. We heard too that initial findngs from the clicincal trial for Rituxan and his disease are not as promising as had hoped. So I don't think it worked for him at all. He goes to his pulmonologist on Thursday (maybe if we have vehicles runningand gas insn't too exorbinate.

Nerf went to see his pulmonologist today at Ann Arbor. The news was not good. He has had blood in his spit recently. Today his PFT showed no improvement whatsoever, and even worse, the chest x-ray showed a significant growth of two nodules in his lungs and a possible new growth. It doesn't look like the Rituxan worked for Mark at all. They are considering putting Mark back on Cytoxan, but are reluctant to do so beacuse he has had so much in the past. Cytoxan runs a high risk for bladder cancer. But Cytoxan is about the only thing that seems to do him any good. He is on Methotrexate now, but he has been on it in the past and relapsed then, also.

Taked to Nerf's doctor yesterday. They are going to try a different medication called Imuran first. This is the same drug they use to battle organ rejection in transplants. It is also used in rheumatoid arthritis. They really don't want him to have any more Cytoxan. So they are going this route first

As I type this, Nerf is on his way to U of Mich in an ambulance. I took him into the ER this morning and basically they did not want to touch him. His WBC was 29.7 and his SED rate was 69. At first they were thinking pancreatitis, which can be caused by Imuran, but his blood levels for pancreas were normal. Of course the ER docs were in touch with U of Mich basically as soon as he was wheeled in the door and Ann Arbor of course said to ship him up. Now the other problem is that Ann Arbor is under white out conditions, from what I hear. Come on, it's the 23rd of April! No one should have 8" of snow! So I am not driving up until it clears out, which may not be until Monday. They even considered Life Flighting him up, but the copter is grounded. I am just so upset by all of this! I mean, not even the weather can cooperate with me this weekend! I'll keep you updated as I hear more....

Just checked the weather and it looks like the storm warning has been cancelled so I am going to head up to Ann Arbor a little later this morning. They still are expecting snow, but not nearly as much and they don't expect it to stick to the roads much.

Just popped in for a moment to check out everything. Glad to see everyone is back but somewhat bedraggled.
I am stillin Ann Arbor. It seems Nerf had a severe reaction to his new medication. His liver and kidney levels are coming back to normal, so that is a good thing. He was still nauseous last night, but no real vomiting since Sunday. Still hasn't eaten any solid food, though. There was talk of him getting out today, but I can't see that happening if he still hasn't eaten anything. Either way, I will be home tonight. Poor Karm must feel abandoned. More later
