Definately an indoor kitty. My male cat ran off once and I don't want that to happen again. Still, we may get her a collar; just to help it feel like she's really ours. I can still hardly beleive it. She's been eating ravenously. Who knows when she had her last meal, poor thing! We're keeping her on kitten food for now since she's still pretty young and needs a little more meat on her bones. No, she's not allowed to jump yet; not until her stitched spot is healed a little more. She's explored most of the apartment now but is startled fairly easily and doesn't like to get too far from Mom and Dad's bedroom.

it'll probably take her a while not to be jumpy.. Now when you said she was tied up .. did you dad say it looked like someone did that to her?

Yup. That made everyone really mad; especially over at the vet clinic. What kind of a monster would do that to such a sweet, pretty cat? She's settling in very nicely. She still hides under the bed a little, but when she is out she likes getting attention or lounging on the floor. Mom says she wouldn't be surprised if Ellie ends up beign a lap kitty. Cool. A furry heater!

That's why I sometimes hate kids these days. They can be so cruel.. well people in general can be. Looks like even though you had to give up your other pets you now have saved the life of your new furry friend. Just like I had to give mine up and we ended up rescuing two more from the shelter. I think our doggy was slighty abused from his last owners. Ya tell him to come ina sweet voice and he acts a little like hes goign to get beaten. He's slowy comming out of that though. Yet if I shake the cat treats for bubba he runs into the other room and hides. Hopefully we can break that too from him. He's such a sweet doggy. My kitty bubba.. yea hes a lap cat and a bed cuddler...

Congrats on your new kitty, UCJ. She's pretty and seems very sweet. I know you will really enjoy her, and she can be a comfort to you in difficult times.
We found our "twins" in a desolate spot near the Appalachian trail in North Georgia. We were driving in the mountains in the Fall and the car started overheating, so we pulled off at an overlook and two little kittens jumped out of the bushes. No food, no water, no homes or any "settlement" nearby and just a few weeks until really cold weather.... It makes me really angry when I think of someone "letting them out"... more like throwing them away like trash.
It took us 3 hours to catch them. You could tell they wanted to be with us, b/c they would come up to us and purr like mad but they always stayed out of reach. Jerry finally caught them one by one by throwing a shirt over them like a net. When we caught the first one (who bit the daylights out of my hand incidentally), I had to zip him up in a tote bag we had in the trunk. Then he just laid down in the bag and purred and purred and was fine. I had to drive home b/c Jerry had the other wrapped up tightly in the shirt/net. :-)
But we "won them over", and we've had these cats for 9 years --- they are delights, very sweet and affectionate. (And nice "warmers" on a cold night :-))

Himiko, Glad you are enjoying your new dog and cat. Hopefully your dog will get over his shyness when he learns you are not going to hurt him, but it may take a long time.
We think Fluffy and Tiny were abused too. Whenever I would take out the broom to sweep the kitchen floor, they would freak out and run away and hide. Vacuum cleaner? No prob. (Jacob on the other hand would freak over the vacuum cleaner but not give another thought to the broom, as would seem more "logical".)
Fluffy also didn't know how to play. If you would toss a little toy to him, instead of catching it or batting it, he would run away in fright with a pitiful and sad look on his face. It could melt the hardest heart. He is still timid after all of these years, but it is SO much better.

Yeah I think he'll get over it too. CHance is starting to come up and sit next to us with that happy tounge out of his mouth smile doggies get. He didn't do that before. What i find is funny now is that last night when I went to bed the cat was up in the bed with me and then chance comes in and whines a little at the foot. The moment I say come up or pat the bed he's up in it and snuggeling next to me. He's doing that right now with my hubby.

That's cute -- and he's "testing the waters" with you, to see if you want him to come up. Then when you do, he's affectionate and snuggly. I'm happy for all of you. One thing you need to be aware of (which I'm sure you are) -- when the baby comes, there's going to be some jealousy from your pets, so they'll need some reassurance. (Jeepers, I sound like a "mom" dispensing advice... sorry...)

Ellie's doing better every day. Today she actually started playing! Of course, she does have her 'kitty' moments. She hasn't learned to scratch the scratching post isntead of the carpet and has started to try and sneak up on my messy desk. She got up there once; and invariably made a mess! But yeah, I already feel better when I pet her. I don't think we'll be able to keep her from jumping for long. She's getting curious about those toes wiggling under the covers...and the parakeet! Thankfully he's hanging out fo reach!

Yeah I know the pets will get jelous but that will have to be delt with and I am sure they will be fine. The doggys is happy as long as he gets walked and gets to cuddle in bed with us at night. He takes the covers off both the husband and I. Kitty... he likes to cuddel up to me in bed at night as well.. usuly kneeding me and then sleeps a bit and does whatever. During the day he just follows me around or whatever. Hes not too mush a cuddle hoger.. just has to have his morning pet and food and then he's fine. Bubba also has a fasanation for watching me take a bath and normaly sticks his tail int he water.

Awww, what a cute lil' kitty. UCJ, congrats on the new kitten and for bringing in a stray especially what someone did to that poor thing. I do wonder about the human race sometimes with the way we treat animals. We got our dog from the shelter and she was abused. But she's the best dog anyone can ask for and so grateful too.
