I've only ever been to two cons: CIII and CIV. But one of my favorite activities was meeting people. Whether it be people I've spoken to online for years or random fans that I'm waiting in line with, I love to just start random conversations. It's so nice to know that you're on common-ground with everyone around you, so there's nothing to worry about.

Assiding from metting all sorts of people I get a kick at being goofy in my costumes.
Dragon con last year myslef and a 501st trooper were bored so we patrolled one of the lines that people were in fro Serenity. Sense we both were in armor we messed with people.. and its so funny when they take it al in good clean fun. We walked up to Kevin Sorbo and aimed our blasters at him.. he loved it and had a run with it as well.. I just love going around and being able to strike up a convo with anyone and feel at home.

Yeah, the silly stuff in costume is loads of fun! I got to be the victim of the "Jedi Purge" at the hand of several bounty hunters and Imperials throughout the course of CIV and it was a blast!
I also agree about meeting many of the actors. Especially the foreign ones. Even when you're not looking for an autograph or paying for anything, most of them are incredibly friendly and accepting of the craziness that comes with being a SW icon! Ray Park, Jeremy Bulloch, and Peter Mayhew are all terrific to hang-out with!

Old days, check my schedule and plan, hot delaer's room first and then go to panels, etc.. I want to attend. I also try to meet friends too. As a guest lately, check out where my panels will be ahead of time, then plan what i can do around my schedule and signings. I do bring costumes--have to plan around this too now. I'm a big panel goer, meself, at least at DCon. First year i stuck primarily to the writer's track and last year I spent an awful lot of time at the new scifi/fantasy lit track, occasionally jumping over to MOTF and the skeptics/sciency track. On downtime I wander the open areas to gawk at all the awesome costumes or hit the art exhibit to drool. I usually hit the dealer room at least twice in the four days - once to wander and twice to make purchases, should I acutally find anything (usually just T-shirts from Off World). But it's so crowded it makes me uncomfortable - same reason I end up avoiding mega-popular things like the Serenity panels, it makes me feel claustrophobic! Evenings are for filk, if I can manage to stay awake! Two years running and I've yet to get to the drumming circle or the dances because I decide to take a "nap" ... and then don't wake up again...
I don't know a lot of people yet, so I don't hook up with friends... Though I did meet some of you fine folks last year at your MOTF panel and am looking forward to seeing you now that I've talked to you more! This year I'm hoping to try a larger variety of things instead of sticking to just one track.
At smaller cons, like MegaCon in Orlando, I only have the one day to be there so I spend it hanging out with local friends, cruising the dealer room, only one or two panels, then mostly just watching the fabulous display of pure geekery!

Hehehee... that Jarren Landcaster looks far too happy for killing 'troopers... Dark side point? (wink)
And is that in a Waldenbooks? (shudder... the horror, the HORROR!)

Looks like Borders to me Well, yeah, Borders owns Waldens... technically, Waldenbooks Inc owns Borders, but really.... which chain is thriving, eh? I'm a former Waldenbooks wage-slave.... Lala
