I decided to try out some of the Jedi Apprentice books while I was visiting my aunt last weekend. I told my aunt that I was online with a bunch of middle aged women in Jedi costumes reading Star Wars kid's books. I also showed her my picture on the Jedi Assembly web page. She said it was nice for people to have a hobby. She's re-reading the Master and Commander books.
So, anyway, the bookstore only had a scattering of the JA books. I'm so glad the Harry Potter books are out; they give adults some credibility when going to the young adult section of the store. And I've already read---no inhaled---the first two and I have to wait until, like, next week until I can get book three and the others from amazon because I'm just too cheap to pay extra for the shipping even though I'm absolutely dying to read more of them.
Oh, I think I need to go work on that costume and tutorial.

LOL.... overnight shipping for the insanely obsessed.... I wouldn't pay the extra either... but wasn't it tempting? And my husband was showing his mother my pic on TJA last weekend... I then had to explain to her what it was all about... she was totally confused!

I love the JA and JQ books. Was thinking about re-reading them all while doing all this waiting for Nerf. Maybe i will now that you've got me thinking about them again

I then had to explain to her what it was all about... she was totally confused! Yes! I confess, I was tempted! But it doesn't cost anything to *think* about it. Or going here for sympathy. Re-reading them sounds like such a luxury since reading them in the first place is still my quest. My aunt has the same attitude that my mother had about my costumes, 'oh, another costume; that's so nice.' She doesn't worry about understanding the details and just notes that it's just a hobby that I do and sometimes I come up with some cool, fancy clothes, too.

I started to re-read the JA series as I wanted to enjoy the development of an event that happens about midway in the series that I didn't pick up on the first time through.
Yeah, my mother was amazed that I learned to sew "so well" (nothing compared to some of my SCA friends) and even attended, in garb, some SCA events when she visited. I think she probably would have thought the same about this Jedi stuff I make. I'm amazed at myself for making a belt and a lightsaber.

Someday maybe I'll tackle trying to sew again. But I don't have a machine and I surely don't want to do all that stitching by hand

No, it's definitely not worth doing by hand.
Well, unless you are one of the authenticity mavens in an historical group that predates sewing machines! I know people who are so into it, they keep sheep to sheer to process the fleece into wool to weave into fabric to sew into garb by hand.
Not for me. My challenge is Jedi patience.
My husband came up with my alternate SCA motto while observing me sewing, [can't find the Latin now, but it means] "impatience in the face of adversity"

Keeping the sheep to shear, to spin, to weave, to sew by hand, That is just going to far! I like garb to have the proper details and fabric, the closest I've come to by hand is hand embriodering the trim for the hem of a garb, I'm still working on the trim for the rest of it. What I wouldn't give for a tailoring droid to stich all the Jedi robes I design in my head, so I could get some sleep & wake up and find them finished at my bedside. And if I had that droid, I'd have more time to read or re read all those books. I think you'll really like the JA & JQ series, they were really interesting.

Finally! Amazon sent an e-mail confirming that they've shipped the books. I had enough time to post a Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan short in the fanfic section while I was impatiently waiting. Aaaah, the perils of picking the "free shipping" option.
Interestingly enough, neither Amazon nor Barnes and Noble have Jedi Apprentice #18. And Amazon couldn't ship #9 with the others either, so I cancelled that one. I'll ask my sister to look for them and send them to me. I don't mind used, I'd have considered looking for them used; but there are almost no options for that here and the savings on book price always gets eaten up by postage for me when looiking for used books online. Besides, I want them NOW. ;D

So what ones are you missing Ani? JA #9 and #18. It appears that I should be able to get them used online and I've asked my sister to check out the bookstores in her area. But if you happen to have them lying around, I'm interested.

Thanks for looking. At least I got the box from amazon today, so I have something to keep me busy.
