Since I will be undergoing some radiation and since I alrady have some hair loss right on the very top of my head due to my skin graft, I was pondernig what kind of hat or headwear a Jedi might wear. I plan on costuming for a loooooonnnnggg time yet. And I do not want a wig -- I am more of a hat or bandana person. So post away with any ideas...

Well, if yo go by the RPG and some of the comics that mention trainin, it'd look something like this. Which goes from about the same basic set-up as Vader's helmet. I had planned on doing one similar eventually.

There's a Jedi costumer in So Cal that does wear a sort of brown bandana. It's not canon but I would think allowances would be made. I remember we once told someone with significant foot disability that she wouldn't have to wear medically contraindicated boots with her costume (I think that was us; might have been RL). I agree, an Adi Gallia-like skull cap (even without the tail-like thingys) would be a very good idea. I've just been looking at pictures and you could even decorate it a little. image search results: images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=%22Adi+Gallia%22&btnG=Search+Images

I quite like that idea. I think it would look great with the tails too. How about using your jedi braid in it somehow. If you might lose it, how about incorporating it somehow into a headpiece?

I am defintely keeping the braid, even if I have to chop it off. That could be a good idea, somehow incorporate it into headpiece.
I was thinking of maybe creating a lekku like Aayla Secura's headpiece, but I don't have the body to be a Twi'lek. LOL

Why not simply shave it? Goodness if you're forced to lose hair why not embrace the truth? I love my hair and would be loath to lose it all but when faced with the truth that it's coming wether or not one wants it, I say, be bold and take the opportunity to have some fun with it. I think shaved in certian ways might be fum, consider a possible religious monastic look. The variety of Jedi looks is as myriad as the stars. So many chances to be original and unique.
But then I'm an oddball aren't I?

Bald would be okay excpet for the graft area which makes it look more like something out of Frankenstein right now. I don't know how it will look when its totally healed.
I DO NOT want a wig really, at least for everyday life. Maybe for costuming... hmmm.... I am really a bandana or hat type person.

How about something like Luminara's, except in shades of brown? Or a robe with a hood like Bariss's? Those are very nice.

Take it from another Jedi losing hair, shaving bald is sometimes best. You'll look absolutely ageless, and, as mentioned above, there is the monastic look to go for.

I think shaved bald would highlight the graft. Better, for the time being, to cover it. And bald looks different on a man than a woman....it's much more odd on a woman.

Exactly, I have the whole scar thing to consider up there too. Other wise bald would probably be okay. Keep the ideas coming. I could just wear my robe hood up, but sometimes its hard to keep it there

Robe hoods are awful for staying up! The least little breeze will push them off. It's like wearing a sail. They must have had to have pinned or taped them to the actors heads for any action scenes with hoods up. I suppose it wouldn't be very glamorous for Darth Vader to have fabric stuck to his head as he strides into the Temple to massacre the whole Jedi Order, but at least his hood would stay up!
How about a brown cap or scarf with fasteners on it? There could be matching fasteners on the inside hem of the hood. I wonder if Bariss has something like that under her hood?
I've found that a cheap, shapeless. brown felt hat worn under the hood will help keep it on and keep it out of your face. You get better friction between the hoot and hat, and the hat and your hair, but it's not foolproof for keeping the hood on.
I do like the veil that Lumnara has. It looks like it would need a foam insert under it, but that's easy. Electric knives are perfect for carving foam. You can use it to fit it to a styrofoam wig head, then pin it down to the wig head and shape the rest of it to fit under the veil. It looks like the band at the forehead holds it in place, so if it's made of lightweight materials, it should be comfortable.
