Really? If you're not an experienced sewer, maybe a basic sewing class would help. Sewing and pressing go hand in hand. There are even special pressing tools for particularly difficult situations.
Even after 45 years of sewing, I learned a new pressing technique this year from a friend who is a master costumer. And it's a technique that is usefull in the pressing challege that is the tabbards.

I'm a complete novice when it comes to sewing. my "wool robe project" was the first time I've used a sewing maching since 'home-ec' class in the 7th grade (roughly 24 years ago). I'm flying this ship on "motivation" alone. (a little motivation goes a long way)

Home Ec was something interesting, but really not advanced ennough for anyone to be willing to try sewing for real, in my very humble opinion.

For those "motivated" for the next step, JoAnn's offers basic sewing classes. There are also a number of good books out there from which one can learn.

Sounds like what I was just going to say! Nope... no sewing experience here either... except maybe in girl scouts when I was 10. The sewing machine came to live in my house almost 2 years ago now... I finally figured out how to change the needle.

lol I used the same pattern. I kinda like the dickie that the pattern calls for but I wanna make a new one anyway just for a more realistic feel. the buckle looks very han solo'esque.

Looks good. I think you said it's not actually a white as it photographs? Belt and robe look very nice. Still, to be accepted, the (apparently) black tshirt needs to be replaced either by a brown/tan one, or one with a v-neck so that it can't be seen, or with an actual undertunic

Brown tshirt....good! It looked black....but witness the constant debates about the photos of Anakin's costume in EPIII...it's really hard to tell on a computer screen!
