I thought it would be fun for us, and inspiring to novice costumers to post pictures of our first and subsequent Jedi costumes. Here's mine: Costume #1 It was just a wee bit too short, and the lacey undertunic was a little overdone for a Jedi. Not to mention the purse for a pouch. I wore it with leggings and lace-up boots. And here you can see what my belt looked like before I modified it at all, and that I didn't know I was supposed to wear it around my actual waist. It's kind of sitting on my hips and slouching down. You can really see all the lace on the undertunic, and the sleeves are too short, and the tabards are just a single strip of fabric, unhemmed! Yikes! At least I have different boots, and I switched to dark brown leggings. And costume # 2: This is my favorite fabric... I've been meaning to redo the costume using the new circle skirt pattern that I like. (I don't remember what I bluescreened it for... and would you look at how short that braid is! lol!) Still worn with leggings, only a medium brown, this time. The boots are slouch boots from a catalog. And this is Costume # 3, the one I made for C3. The fabric is rayon blend, I think, and the lining is finally silk.. not poly, like the last one. Still, it's not the circle skirt pattern, it's just gathered. The pants are from the thrift shop-- some sort of krinkly rayon, they are. And finally, costume #4, the one I wear now. I love this pattern, and I need a second one made like this. That's on my to-do list! The pants are stretch denims from Target, elastic waist, flat front. The new boots are made by Frye, and I dyed them reddish brown. Ironically, I've had the same belt all along, it's just been modified a few times. Rumor has it that I'm due for a new one.... Luckily, there are no pictures of me wearing the Rubies.....

Cool! You'll get there...
It took me a long time to figure out how to make that first one... that was about 4 years ago.

This is the only image I have of the first one... I made it in 1999, from viewing Ep 1 about 12 times at the really cheap theater! It was before I found any on-line Jedi info. Not too bad, if I do say so. I've got the rucked undertunic sleeves. The food capsules and covertec clip were added later, after I found some on-line tutorials and resources. I just don't have a Qui-Gon-like Jedi belt. This is version 2, made in 2002, of linen. I have a Jedi belt and a robe, too. It's version 1 of the belt. public.fotki.com/Kait/star_wars/new_jedi_costume/

Actually, it is the one that's still on the website. I don't have one I like better, yet.

I am still on my version 1.0. There are SOOOOOoooooooo many things I'd change if I'd do it again. I guess I'll need to version 2.0 myself at some point. On a side note, I do have a 2nd tunic I made before becoming member here.

Yeah, I also have a tunic that I made between 2 and 3 and one between 3 and 4... no pictures in them, though. 2.5 was a bomb, and 3.5 I only wore once, and then remade it because I didn't like way it hung on me.
So really, there were 6.

Luckily, there are no pictures of me wearing the Rubies..... Unfortunately I can't say the same thing. LOL! In Oct of 1999 I fell victim to the dreaded Obi-Wan Ep I Jedi costume (hey, I didn't know any better at the time ). When I discovered that the belt was totally made of rubber (complete with cute little hot dogs ) and could not properly hold the weight of a lightsaber, I decided to upgrade the costume. So began the journey of my Jedi garb... Here is the first incarnation. It is the Rubies tunic and sash. I replaced the cheesy pant/boot top combo with drawstring pants, and black high top boots (actually ladies boots in my size- not the most flattering purchase I've ever made ). I also had a seamstress make a robe for me using promo pictures of Obi-Wan from Ep I. I made the utility belt myself from leather and dyed it brown with shoe spray. The buckle is from a woman's shoe. The pouches are a beeper and (old school) cell phone pouch. Although not in the picture- I also have food capsules made from the correct Staedler pen caps. As with Leda- this is the only part of my Jedi garb that has not changed (along with my custom lightsaber). In 2005 I dramatically updated my Jedi robes for the premiere of Ep III. I won an auction off ebay that included an inner tunic, outer tunic, tabbards, sash, and robe (although I'm still wearing my original robe here). I repainted my boots a medium brown, and grew a full beard for the first time in my life. This is how I looked for the midnight premiere. For Dragon Con of the same year, I wore my new robe, bought some dress pants for more of an Obi Ep III look, repainted my boots again to a darker brown, and shaved (I couldn't take it anymore in the summer heat ). And here is the one I wear now. In June of 2006 I purchased a custom made Jedi tunic, sash and full undertunic (complete with triple lapel collar). I also replaced the pants again with a slightly lighter coloured pair. Still kept my second robe as there was nothing wrong with it. Throughout this journey I have patterned my robes after Obi-Wan, however I eventually had to ask myself, "Am I trying to be Obi-Wan? Or am I trying to be Ki-Vaan Zion?" I came to grips with the fact that I could constantly be upgrading my robes to be a screen accurate Obi-Wan, or be satisfied with what I finally have, and the custom character I have created. I chose the latter! ;D

Wow! Fantastic! I had taken the rubber Rubies belt and cut the pouches off, hoping to form them into actualy pouches by fitting them over cell phone cases of that size. It still looked cheezy. And I still have not come to terms with the fact that I cannot be Obi-Wan. ahem. (kidding)

This is a fascinating topic! I am curious to see how this thread develops. This, indeed, can be inspirational to novices such as myself. And Ki-Vaan Zion, bring back the beard. LOL
