I know I was at Dragon Con last year & well for me the temp wasn't too bad--but that's me. I was comfortable, of course this is coming from a Jedi who is comfortable in the Florida heat. In Atlanta last year the humidity wasn't too bad.
The Matters of the Force Room is kept very very very cool, at least last year it was & I could feel the coolness through my Jedi clothes & robe.

I remember talking to a Vader about those, he said it was a huge pain and that it didn't work all that well or for that long and that it didn't recool very well in a cooler either.

at least it would be cheaper, even if it didn't work, those are quite expensive, I priced them recently for a customer.

I've seen stuff used by paramedics and F1 pilots that seams to be working good, but pricewise shouldn't be cool.

the ice down the back thing worked for me in florida. I actually have an idea for an "ice water tube networking" that runs from the base of your neck along your arms and out behind your feet. just need some pvc tubing a funnel and some duck tape lol. it would be cheaper.
edit: the sharper image things that go around your neck look interesting to say the least but I can't immagine that being comfortable

It is my understanding that it is what they used in the original costume of Chewbacca to keep Mr. Mayhew cool. It is also what they use in the NASA spacesuit, and some F1 suits. problem is that you need to cool the fluid - either with a backpack cooler, or with some latching device and an external cooler. Problems either way :S
