Thought I'd post a couple pics of my new costume, which I'm pretty close to done with. It's a brown crinkle-cotton outer tunic with a lighter brown crinkle-cotton inner tunic and a dark brown wool Anakin Episode II-type cloak. I think the skirt is too short, so I'm going to lengthen a little bit here soon, so it'll be just a bit shorter than the tabards, but otherwise, I think it turned out pretty well.

Very nice Would that cloak be by MystikMerchant by any chance? [Edit to add] That's a nice Obi-Wan saber, did you modify it from a particular replica? It seems to have a covertec attatchment, but the LED lens of the ANH version...

Thanks!
Nope, I made the cloak myself. I've made Jedi robes before, and regular (medieval-style) cloaks, but not an Anakin Episode II-style, so I was happy I was able to get it on the first try. I actually was trying to make it wrongly, in how the tabards (or whatever you want to call the front pieces) attach to the cloak and accidentally figured out the right way in the process (luckily for me!)
The saber is a resin replica of Obi-Wan's Episode IV saber. I bought two of them, and had already made one into an Episode IV weathered saber, so I decided to make this one into an "as first built by" but with the covertec instead of the D-ring. I've been told that both of them look like they're actually metal even in real life (not just in photos). A guy I troop with in the Rebel Legion didn't know my Ep. IV saber wasn't metal after seeing it a dozen times 'till I told him.

Wow, that really is fantastic work on the cloak, definitely something to be proud of I got mine from Mystik, hence my question I have to admit, from the picture, I would've thought it was sanded metal as it doesn't quite have the same finish as 'shiny' metal, but it really is very nice

Thanks, everyone! I appreciate it. I'm really happy with the sleeves, which hang the same on both side (not just hanging as far down but hanging in the same way), and the sleeve lining, which I finally got right, with it hanging loose inside the sleeves. I got my best-looking shoulder tucks in on this one too. Tonight I got halfway to lengthening the skirt. I also finally did what I've been thinking about doing forever and putting velcro on the collar of the inner tunic to keep it in place. It's working well, though I had to take the outer collar apart so I could sew the velcro onto the bottom without the stitiching showing up on top. Leda, I have the regular food capsules (the pen caps) and then also a couple of aluminum pill bottles that are supposed to go on your key chain that I epoxied some hairpins onto for belt clips. I actually put pills in them! (Ibuprofen in case I get a headache and Pepcid for bad con food). Since a lot of the pants I wear when in costume don't have pockets, all my belt pouches are functionable. I had a place for everything but pills, which tended to end up as dust rolling around in an ammo pouch with my house keys and stuff. Thus, the pill bottles. And they look pretty cool, too. Not canon, but definitely something that could have been, I think. I did the Anakin Episode II cloak mostly because I found that wool on sale, but I was afraid there wasn't enough to make a regular robe out of for me (I'm 6'3" and about 220 lbs., so robes take a LOT of fabric for me). So, I decided to try the Anakin Ep. II. I was afraid I wouldn't like it, but I really do. The part I was most worried about, putting a harness in to keep it from falling off, turned out to be a snap. (I just sewed a wide piece of elastic in to go under my armpits and across my back and it's worked perfectly). Jan-Qui, I got totally lucky with the fabric. Would you believe I found that dark brown crinkle cotton in the bargain bin at Wal-Mart for $1 a yard? Every once in a while you get super lucky, and that was my day! Online, I recently found crinkle cotton in all kinds of colors at a site called DollarFabric. Haven't dealt with them myself, but here's the link in case it helps. They have dark brown, cigar, light brown, all kinds. I think they're all around $6.00 a yard. dollarfabric.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=00000001&Category_Code=4005

Costume looks excellent, and you should definitely lengthen the skirt, it would look even better. Got any close ups of your accessories? (belt, saber, pill bottles etc?)

I do have this pic: The pouches are used Argentine ammo pouches I got from sportsmansguide.com, the pill bottles came from Walgreen's or CVS (and I have found them in both silver and gold now). If you notice, I have both a covertec and a regular saber clip so I can hang sabers with covertec wheels or D-rings on this belt. The wide belt I found at a thrift shop. The narrow belt and loops that hide the rivets I made myself, as I did the food capsules. Not in the shot are two more pouches I made out of Case Logic digital camera cases from Wal-Mart. They're black, so I used a sanding wheel on my Dremel to scuff up the surfaces and to sand off the "Case Logic" on the metal enclosure, then used fabric paint to paint them brown. With those two pouches, the ammo pouches, and the pill bottles, I'm able to carry my keys, money, ID, debit card, and everything else I need on my belt, so I don't need pockets in my pants.

I thought they might look good on a jedi belt, but I never worked out how to attach them. Using a hair clip is a good idea. They really do look good... and they're functional!

Those silver things are a grand idea. Not every jedi is a cookie cutter replica of anoither nor should they be.:-) Keep it orginal and keep it you. LOVE the gear, and props. It rocks.
