Hmmm, myself, I like my beard... I think it does look more distinguished, going back to the days of chivilary. As for Master Yoda with a beard (Fu-Man-Chu), hmmm, looks kinda familiar; use your imagination a little. An'Joh Zaji

It depends on the person, not everyone can grow a good beard. I tried once and it came in patchy so off it went. Moustache and goatee, maybe. Besides Mace, Luke and Anakin didn't have one, therefore its not absolutely necessary. But, hey for those that can, more power to you.

I like this question. Personally I think the male human Jedi should have a beard. I think it shows a deep maturity in the person. Plus the beard just makes everything sooo much cooler. You know what beards for everyone male, female, alien alike. If you get patchy we can glue in the spots with wookie fur lol

Well I've tried it both ways. (I currently look like the younger guy on the right LOL! ) Unless you are specifically representing Luke, Anakin, or Mace, a beard really does complete the look. Gives you a distinguished look. However beards do come with drawbacks- they need to be cared for a daily basis, your partner may not care for them, and if you work in the food industry (like myself) you may be required to wear a "beard-net". Not to mention the unbearable itchy phase when growing one. Bottom line- it's up to the individual.

no offense Ki Vaan, but with a braid and no beard, you'd look like a padawan, while the bearded version looks more master... When I am preparing an outing, I like to grow it back, but the rest of the time, I go beardless.

no offense Ki Vaan, but with a braid and no beard, you'd look like a padawan, while the bearded version looks more master... No offense taken at all! What you say is completely true- the beard does give a complete look to a Knight or Master. I look much younger without the beard. Besides I've always considered my robes to be based on "young" Obi-Wan. Except for having a goatee for about 6 months (many years ago) I've been clean shaven my entire life. I grew the beard for the premiere of Episode III- first time with a full beard! It was fun while it lasted. But I couldn't stand wearing the "beard-net" at work. If I ever change jobs I might grow it back.

with the brief exception of about 1 month beardless and 1 month with a goatee I've worn a beard since I was 15.....took me two years to get my mom to let me grow it....then she liked it so much when I shaved it off a year later she told me to grow it back.....then my Dad grew one too.

Ki Vaan.... I grew mine too for Ep3! ROFL Now I let it grow only when I have a StarWars thing going - like last haloween or stuff in the like. If you see me at TT20, I'll have one (at least on saturday - I plan on having another costume on sunday where I'd shave.. )

I'm in the annoying position that my beard has two wierd 'bald patches' in it (think Gowron's beard) I'm hoping it'll grow through fully when I'm older, as by choice, I would have a full beard (or even a goatee) I haven't been 'clean shaven' in over two years, as I just use a guardless trimmer for the Miami Vice 'designer stubble' I'm in the process of growing a beard, and I'll see how it looks before deciding to shave it off...

Mostly it depends on the face, it looks good on some, on some it looks awful, on some they look older with one and some look mature either way. I'm not a huge fan of beards on most guys, but some look much better with than without, either way, if they're going to wear one, I like them neatly groomed.

I sometimes have a Goatee from time to time or a beard if I have to dress for a medieval event, i don't like the long hair with the beard, I perfer on or the other.
