heh, I think that they appear as the muminous beings that Luke would picture, Anakin as he was before he 'died' on Mustafar.

Thanks for the info, I didn't realize that they only superimposed Hayden's head onto Sebastian's body, that's an interesting little factoid Regarding the appearance of Hayden rather than Sebastian: I've heard that there is a difference between a ghost, and a spirit. A ghost is the psychic manifestation of the deceased, but they have not quite come to terms with their new existence, and not moved fully to the 'Spirit World', so they often appear to bear the wounds that killed them (or other life-time disfigurements), but a spirit, is the psychic manifestation of the deceased once they have accepted their state, and 'moved on' to the 'Spirit World', so they then 'revert' to their True Form (whole and undamaged) The theory (put forward in a Star Wars Annual) being that the addition of Hayden to the scene is that he had returned to his True Form, and that it was not so much the ghost of Darth Vader, but the spirit of Anakin Skywalker.

Well considering they call them Force ghosts, I dunno.
Really its a way of showing post existance, becoming one with the Force, ascending to a higher plain, but not being of any one set of rules.
I just take it for what it is...Luke sees Anakin as he was when he was a Jedi.

If you're thinking of it as him seeing his father as he was through the force, he would see body only, a persons clothes are not part of them. You could consider he knew the face through the force, but just subcontiously picked something simliar to Ben's just as filler.
You could say all that, but we all know that it's nothing like that, and it's all just supposed to be a mildly amusing extra little thing for the fans.

Since Luke knew Ben's clothing to be that of a Jedi, that what he saw his father in ... That my story and I'm sticking to it.

I like what tanzan said it makes since but at the same time a force ghost is what they are called. I think it is that the force projects them in a way that would be more honorable to the spirit of what the jedi was in life.

I still think Anakin just snooped in Bens closet... Wow, metaphysical, astral-plane clothes borrowing! Makes sense; they're like brothers. Of course they borrow each other's shirts. ;D I hope Daddy-Qui-Gon can break up of the arguements.

Wait... Ben died and left his cloak behind on the death star... how did he get another one? What's with Obi-Wan and his mysterious re-appearing cloak? How many times does he lose it in RotS, only to appaer waering it again in a later scene??

Once a person has accepted their situation as dead and passes onto the spirit realm, they revert to their true form (losing any injuries or deformities from the time of death). It's possible that when that self image becomes balanced, clothes are subconsciously added, like when we dream, we are seldom naked, but often wearing our favorite clothes and jewellery.

But in the SW universe they would have the ability to compress an entire jedi robe into the size of a credit card. lol

You're right about that, I think. It's the self image... It would explain why Obi-Wan appeared old, and why Anakin appeared young. It fits in both cases.
