I'm sure this has been addressed before but I don't remember where. But is Gauze fabric suitable for tunics and tabards? Also what about Silk Guaze? www.srfabrics.com/silks/gauze.htm

Many of us use cotton gauze as undertunics. I've seen it used very effectively as the outer tunic but the maker doubled it. It's really too thin, as one layer, for outer tunic. public.fotki.com/Kait/star_wars/toy_drive_2/jedi2.html Garb on the left is made of 2 layers of gauze. It could also be used as an outer tunic if lined. Silk gauze might be even thinner, more open weave, not sure. From the site you linked, you'd have to dye it and that's a lot of fabric to try to dye and have it be all the same color.

You have make sure it's crinkle gauze, or bubble gauze, because most silk gauze I've seen is pretty flat.... unless a flat fabric is what you are looking for. Think of flat gauze as what you would dress a wound with, but with a tighter weave. That's what most swatches of silk gauze that I have sent for look like. You could make good sheer curtains with it too.

Hmm... that's a very nice site... it describes what the different fabric weaves look like, and what they can be used for. Very informative.
