I don't have any experience with top loading machines, but when the bobbin is loaded there should be a little tension when you pull on the thread. If it's completely loose, there's something wrong.

Eck tension! My workhorse Juki serger decided that it was time to see the repair man. The tension and timing both went totally haywire, tho I've seen it coming for awhile, it was at a rather inconvienient time, middle of the night, middle of a project with a deadline, of course. She's all happy again and I get her back in the morning, good thing, I have another Jedi costumes comission to do, a robe to finish on another so I can complete it and just bought fabric for me as well as some other projects to do.

What have you tried on the sewing machine. Same problem? Was anyone there able to give you any help?

Jayden, If the machine won't start, see if you can start it by turning the wheel on the right side of the machine toward you until the needle lowers and then press the foot down. Also, check that all buttons are on, and all plugs are in, I know that sounds dumb, but some of my machines have on /off buttons and some don't.

I don't suppose that there is a dealer for your machine anywhere near you?
The only other thing that I can suggest....and I have used their knowledge on a couple of occasions...is to head to a Joanne's fabric store....most of the Joanne's locations have an area of the store with machines....a lot of times...the ladies that work there are more than willing to lend a hand....
I haven't used the machine area...but have asked some of the other clerks a question from time to time about a sewing problem.....many of them are seamstresses and know a great deal...and are always willing to help....

Jayden, try this, plug in the machine, turn on the power, on the right side end there should be a wheel shaped thing, look at it to see if there is a screw, if so, try to tighten it a bit and then press the pedal foot. If there is no screw in the center, try turning the wheel toward you until it starts to feel tighter, watch and see if the needle starts moving up and down as you turn it, if it does, then try the pedal foot slowly. If you just bought it, take it back to the store and exchange it or have them show you why it won't work. Sometimes they pack the machines for shipping w/ the wheel loosened, to prevent damage in transit, sometimes they just come loose.

It looks OK. Tunic or undertunic?

Ah, if you're having a hard time getting started, try getting a cheap piece of fabric that you don't care about--an old sheet or something--and make a tunic out of that. You'll learn a lot without endangering your good material, get a good pattern from it and you'll get a better idea of what you really want and how it looks.
