I saw a figure today (I forget which range it was in) but it had Anakin with his usual dark brown costume, but the tunic was sky blue!!!!!!!!! What kind of craziness is that??

i'll comment on this.... i would say that NEVER should one use an action figure as a reference for any costume aimed at accuracy. they are just too often wrong. as an action figure customizer...our group talks about these inaccuracies all of the time. ( www.ffurg.com ) Even Slideshow collectibles has messed up one of their figures already..Kit Fisto's belt is just wrong. I could go on and on. for fan fic or custom costumes, the figures might provide a good reference or be an inspiration.

Yeah, I once saw a "holiday" Darth Vader; he was bright red!
What better way to make fast cash then to grab an already existing mold, give it a different paint job and repackage it! LFL seem to be the masters in that area (soon to be released; the Special Edition Remaster of the Special Edition Original Trilogy!" Collect 'em all!

Well this was the thing, I couldn't believe it when I saw it. The Costume Rules do allow people to use figures as reference for their costumes as long as they are authorized figures, and not customized ones, so according to that, someone could make an Anakin costume with a bright blue tunic... Now, if that's what they want to do, then fair enough, but I can't understand why someone would want to do so when their is the actual movies as reference (and because the figure is so different to the accepted norms of the costume) I think Lucas wants to be a bit more carefull about what design's he's signing off as okay, because that one was seriously cringeworthy.

I can explain the reson for that............. before the variation issue came up, the reason was for figures such as the EU Luke, Leia, Mara Jade, and Kyle Katarn figures. Thos figures were based on the EU characters and we were ok with allowing those costumes, based on the figures into TJA. That was before all these variations into screen accurate costumes came into play. However, I'll bring it up with the Counci again.

That's okay, it wasn't so much that I wanted to use the figure as reference, it was more a case of I was so shocked to see the figure, I had a bizzare mental image of Justin arguing that it woud be legitimate reference material for an Anakin costume (no offence meant there, Justin)

If it's a mistake, then I doubt that it was authorised by LFM, could be just a factory goof up, they happen often, there are several mentioned in the collector's column in the Insider, and also in lots of Toy mag issues as well.

The only figure I know of that has a skyblue tunic is the playschool 6" figures, the next step up from galatic heroes. These are not very accurate, but still pretty cool if you're 3-6yrs old and daddy won't let you play with any of his collection. They're in the spirit of a million different Batmans in a million different suits. Of course most of the costumes and gears they paint on to Batman figures have never been seen in any comic book story, they still sell like hotcakes.

And as a collector....I can say that the toy makers will do ANYTHING to sell another figure.... lol...Red Vader....yes..I have that figure....and that was a good example to point out that just cause it is in a package....it doesn't make it canon...or acceptable...or even "logical"...
