I'd have said it was the shade of brown called OXBLOOD in shoe leather, named for it's resemblence to the colour of dried oxblood on the wood of the slaughterhouse floor. Well thats a charming little piece of trivia Nova

The costume has been given another trip through the dark brown dye ;D I'll find out later this evening (it's drying in my in law's garden right now) how it's turned out I think that the tunic has probably shifted out of the terracota spectrum into brown, but that's preferable to the orangey-terracotta it was ;D Only the tabards and boots to work on now

The dye did it's job, and the pants are finally the dark chocolate brown I wanted The tunic is a dark reddish terracotta. Not as red as it appears in the photo, by any means, and much closer to brown, but a hint of red in there The obi was the biggest dissapointment... It took the dark brown as the dingy washed out grey the pants did the first time, so that means I'm going to have to mix the burgendy and terracotta dyes to run it through so it matches the tunic, but, other than that, it's starting to look as I imagined it

Sounds good! But just be careful what you wash it with. The dye might bleed a little bit for the first few washes.

Thats great to hear Tanzan, post pics as soon as its done! Thanks, Seda, you can rest assured that I will hopefully have loads of costumed shots when I get back off vacation the 1st of October Sounds good! But just be careful what you wash it with. The dye might bleed a little bit for the first few washes.
Hee hee, I definitely think it'll have to be washed seperately for a while Like the pics and the hard work you've done. Great job! Thanks, Lazlo, there's still work to be done on the tabards and ideally, I'd still like to get different boots, but I don't think I'll be able to get them in the week and a half I've got left before going on vacation (which is where the costumed photos will be taken...)

The color on the Osnaberg that I dyed this spring has held up amazingly well...and it has been washed many, many, many times...
