That is a brilliant idea; I'm gonna try the duct tape one tomorrow!

I went to a workshop for this a few years ago. It's a really great idea and apparently it's been around since before there was duct tape. One woman at the workshop I was at said that her mother had done the same thing with packing tape. But the nice thing about the workshop is that is that you've got other peope to help. I think you really need another person to wrap you to get it right.

Yes...I guess the brown packing tape thingy has been around since the 1930's...and to be honest...I would prefer that approach...BUT....one of the essential things is that the tape get a chance to dry (this is the old fashioned brown paper tape that you have to moisten the back to activate the glue.
As a kid I used this kind of tape for Easter projects...you would blow up a balloon....and put a couple layers of the moistened tape over the balloon...let the tape dry...and then pop the balloon...and you would have a nice big "easter egg"....but...if you popped the balloon before the tape was really dry...the thing would collapse...and since we have to work within a specific time frame...and there woud be multiple layers of the moistened tape....I don't know that it would hold its shape if not thoroughly dry....

schph, besides the time factor..."popping the balloon" in this case might be a little painful, as well.
I found a mannequin (torso) at a flea market for 5 bucks

Our "duct tape dummies" came out pretty good...I didn't do one of myself....I was there to help others "tape up"....
I am keeping an eye open for an inexpensive mannequin...they can be quite pricey in stores....and even on e-bay......I also have a friend looking...he loves going to thrift stores etc...
