Sorry I didn't put in my 2 Republic Credits in earlier.....
I an Installer/Junior Systems Tester for what is now called Alcatel-Lucent. My compnay is what was called Western Electric and ALU is its newest reincarnation. My system of specialty is 5 Electronic Switching System (5 ESS), which is what ALL local calling applications have to go through whether it be cellular, copper line, or Internet. I am most familiar with the configuartion that handles copper line communications. I have been with my company for 10 1/2 years and in July I will celebrate my 11th Service Anniversary. I have a BS in Chemistry and a 2nd Minor in Pre-Medicine. I took the Chemistry degree with the intent of becomming a Pharmacist. Easier said than done! HEH!! I worked 1 1/2 years as a Junior Chemist and the pay was terrible, worked as an assistant assistant manager in a Waldenbooks bookstore, and ended up working for Lucent Technologies 10 months after the company was spun off by AT&T (big letters, not small). By the will of the Force I hope to make it to my 15th Service Anniversary. It must have been the Force that guided me to buy my very first issue of Star Wars Insider and read about this club called The Jedi Assembly. My thrill was when this woman calling herself Xana said join us and this other guy calling himself Tanthos Jorlac sending me an e-mail saying that I've had my membership request accepted. I've had fun playing George Lucas' Star Wars Fandom since then. If it wasn't for Star Wars I would be a very unhappy man because if I didn't go to sci-fi cons, I wouldn't have gone to places like Atlanta, GA and Indianopolis, IN, and be able to meet such great people as the ones who end up here in TJA. ;D

Xana, you wash cats? Ooooooh, dangerous work.
Well, no. If you watch the video, they just drink out of the tub faucet. lol! Their owner calls it "Bath Time" because they would start doing this as kittens whenever she took a bath. Now it's a daily ritual. The only cats I evser washed were ringworm infected kittens at the animal shelter. They can't jump out of the tub so easily. they just slide back down. lol!

Was it a positive move, I hope?

In the Fall Lucent Technologies was acquired by Alcatel (French Telecom). We were officially Alcatel-Lucent on 12/01/2006. Was this good? Not for Lucent. The French did not want CWA (occupational union representation), but the US Government said that it was illegal to break a union in the USA. Alcatel also announced that they are releasing 2,000 Lucent managers because Alcatel already has their management and Lucent's is the extra.

Cool thread, Siri!
I have a private music studio serving almost 40 violin, viola, cello, bass, and piano students. For 16 years I taught public school orchestra, then I saw the light and 7 years ago entered the world of "self-employed". I also run a violin shop in my home. I rent and sell stringed instruments to students, maintain and repair the instruments, answer the phone, do all the paperwork, sweep the floor, and all the other great jobs that come with the title of sole proprietor. I've just purchased a competitor's rental business, so my instrument rentals are projected to increase 10X by next fall. If I survive the process, that is!

What I do for a living...hmmmmm...I practice being old..... Otherwise, I have been an LPN since 1970. I worked as a floor nurse, burn unit, pediatrics, orthopedics, Intensive care. Got tired of that and went into surgery where I trained as a scrub tech ( hands instruments to the surgeon)......got tired of the Docs...lol......so now I am manager of the Surgical Processing Dept in a small out patient facility. It is a great place to work...pay kinda sucks, but the hours and freedom makes up for it. I am a writer and still trying to get my book published. Three rejections . No one wants to work with a new writer. I did enter an essay contest and I should hear by October. Everyone say a prayer.....oh, by night I'm a Jedi in my dreams......lol

Excellent thread! Can't believe it took me so long to look at this one. It's always great to hear what my fellow Jedi do when they're not fighting the evils of the Sith!
Well...I wear a LOT of hats for my career. I own a small software development/implementation company. We don't make as much software as we do customize existing packages for our customers' needs. We specialize in software for business process automation, such as document imaging (paperless office stuff). We resell a few different packages and work with the customer to determine the best approach to help them do their work more efficiently.
My job means I have to travel quite extensively. I've been to about every state in the US, Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, and some places in Europe.
I do all the normal *business* stuff...marketing, website design, accounting, selling, in addition to working directly with our customers and managing projects.
I guess I'm pretty lucky, since I really have always loved technology...I'm a GEEK at heart. Been working with computers since I was about 11 years old.
But...I can't wait to retire and spend more time on my hobbies, of which I have many.
Thanks for the interest! ~Darcu

Aww, thanks guys (blushing).
Seriously, it was an honor and a pleasure to write the music for our lightsaber demo. As I told the MN Force Chicks, it's so cool to me when a composition comes together, and the ending was a surprise to me, too! I'm so glad it worked out! (And now it has Jeremy Bulloch's autograph, so bonus!)
