I've been here at TJA for almost a year now ;D I've gotten to know many of you on the boards and at the conventions over the past year. But, I've often wondered...what do my friends do for a living?! So...what is your 'Darth Real Life' Job? I'm a sod farmer....like my father before me....and my grandfather before him ! www.braunturf.comIt's a small family business (we only have around 60 employees). We grow 1600 acres of sod and 1500 acres of corn & soybeans. I work in the office, doing mostly bookwork (payroll, AR/AP). We install hundreds of thousands of sod each year on city street reconstrustion projects (where the city tears out old streets & sewers and puts new ones in...we restore the yards.). I also do the bidding for those projects.

Well, right now I am just a plain old retail worker. I work at JCPenney store 0914 in St. Marys, OH. But my "real" job -- the one I am trained for and went to college for -- is a journalist. I have been editor at several small Ohio newspapers and reporter at several more. That all kinda went kerflooey though after Nerf got sick. I did work at a newspaper in Michigan though roght before we moved back to Ohi as a part-time proofreader/copy editor. I kinda wish I could find a position like that around here, but these papers are too small. And there part-time reporters don't get paid. But i really like the people I work with at Penney's and they ahev been real[/i] good about giving me the time i need for Mark or for my treatments and such so I will probably be here for a looong time

I'm a mid-level software engineer (Java) working for a small company on a Dept. of Defense contract. We build, fix and improve a set of websites for the government. We're a small team too (8 peeps) compared to my last job (48 people). I'm very new to the software field. Was working as a musician (keyboards) and in retail sales up until 2000. Got my CS degree in 2003. Really love my work for once in my life (other than music which don't pay for poodoo). ;D I get to solve puzzles all day, and build fun things! ~ K 2

Well I feel like an oldster here, which actually I am ;D I was a 1st/2nd grade teacher in a very poor area of where I live. I was a teacher for 33 yrs. at the same school building, which now is completely unheard of. I am retired from teaching, at the request of my husband. He wanted me to retire, so that we would be free to travel, which didn't work out as we had planned because he died 9 months later from cancer & now I'm taking care of my mom & aunt with the help of caregivers who come in & go from my home. If I had the chance I wouldn't mind working with computers a bit more, since I'm on them a lot. I'd still love to build my own computer---just no time. Also I like to do editing videos when I can work it in. :)Right now the only time I feel retired is when I can go to the Star Wars conventions & events (which I have to plan out very carefully)& wear my Jedi costumes.

I have an MSW (Master's degree in Social work) with a specialty in Oncology (cancer care). However, I transferred for my husband's benefit and the Oncology job was already filled. I'm still doing Medical Social Work but in a Primary Care clinic and on general medicine inpatient service. I'm a career civil servant, for the past 21 years with VA (prior to that a civilian employee of the Defense Department in Germany).
I have a lot of hobbies. I hope to retire from the Feds in about 4 years, work part time for a local Hospice agency and otherwise pursue my hobbies.
Cronto Tocrone, my husband is the LAN-WAN manager for the hospital where we both work. It's a good job but ya gotta love it like a hobby because he spends a lot of his free time keeping up with the latest.

I ran a day care for 11 years, and taught Kindergarten for 3 years. Then I worled for a fire and water damage restoration company, where I cleaned up soot from fires and furnace puffers, and ripped out wet carpet. It paid way more than child care!
Right now I'm unemployed, but I still have kids in middle and high school, so they appreciate when I can be home. Life runs much smoother when I work at home. I'm starting to paint with oils again, and hopefully I can have enough pieces for a show. I'd really like to make a living as a painter.
