Since some of you dont get over to the other forum, I thought Id put this here for you guys. Someone named HothGirl put this up over there, I just added the direct link for you guys. www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?page=hallo028.htmlI was REAL excited (since i havent started sewing yet), till i looked at the back of the package. the Jedi is almost identical to the old 5840 i have. Looks like they only changed the Obi, and added a nicer picture to the front. Seamstresses, please tell me if im wrong.

Seems that Joann fabrics is having a $1.99 special this weekend on all Simplicity patterns. (atleast in this area) I did hear Wal mart had them as well for about a buck more. Ill stop by Joann on the way to work to see if they have one, at that price, why not

Time to go find my annual Simplicity Halloween Mag. I'll have to get these for the pattern collection.

That looks like a great pattern! Will it not need modifications, like for sleeves, like a lot of other patterns do, since this one is meant for Star Wars costuming? I want a pattern that needs little to no modifications needed, because I'm not very good with fabric, and this looks perfect.

It looks as though it shouldn't need much done to it, except to modify it for personal taste or fit. But made in proper fabrics, it should be fine just as it is.

I checked with all the pattern sources here (Joanne's, Walmart, Hanthingys) and everyone of them had just gotten their new books and patterns for the upcoming season. This pattern is not in the latest release, the only place you can get it right now is online. It MAY be in the stores a little closer to Halloween.

It was at Walmart here in Canada.
As for modifications, tabards and sleaves for sure so far.

I was able to get the 4450 from a local Joann on friday. (I wasnt passing up the sale) (they do run sales like that all the time) I did have to ask one of the ladies to look in the back for me, it turned out they had JUST recieved the box of new patterns and displays for the new costume patterns the day i went for it. So your store may not have put the new ones out yet. Over all it does look a little better then the old one. I still plan to do different tabbards and obi. The hood will need to be enlarged, maybe the robe sleeves, and i dont know if i should use the dickie or go with a full under tunic yet. (mine is mostly for halloween, not much call for jedi around here any other time ) P.S. Anyone else notice the release of the ROTS EP 3 dvd should be midnight on halloween? might get to go to 2 places with the new outfit that night ;D

The pattern looks great. I have Simplicity #5840 but it's nice to see a pattern that actually looks Jedi. I tried to order on line at simplicity & they're having problems with their website, something about tax error message.

If some of you are to use this pattern and modify it, I guess it could be a good idea to post "suggested modifications" in here...
I like this pattern package. Do I get there's the Jedis and Padmé suits in the same pack? I am to redo my tunics and need a new pattern, and the G/F was lurking Padmé battle suits...

The 4450 is for the guys but there are padme patterns as well. www.simplicity.com/index.cfm?cat=4&type=19&sec=0&id=59&startrow=1The modifications for the Jedi patterns are mostly simple, but it depends whos look in the movies you prefer. It would take me some time to list them all here, but basicly as said, the hood most people enlarge, the robe sleeves are normally enlagered , the under tunic - this pattern uses is a D i c kie, not a full under tunic. the obi (cloth belt) is sometimes a wrap instead of just one small belt, the Tabbards (called shoulder armor in this pattern) are sometimes just two pieces instead of all one piece like in this pattern. This is a good starting point, but to be movie accurate, it takes a bit of fixing to be real good. Theres alot of tutorials and suggestions all around this forum, the Main Jedi Assembly site, and other places. Read through some of the sticky threads at the top of the individual catagories, and some of the older threads, alot of info in those too. Just ask if you have any spicific questions, i joined recently, because these people love their hobby, and helping others.

Very interesting... I know that I will buy probably two of each for future use...although...I still like my current pattern better.... It is so cool...they even have an "Aayla"
If I happen to be out and about...I will check into them at Joanne's this weekend..

From simplicity patterns 5840 & 4450 which would have the robe that would need least modification. I'm asking because I'm not a seamstress & I may not know what to look at on the patterns to see the difference. Thanks

Just found out that Joann Fabrics is having another $1.99 special on thier Simplicity Patterns. Check your local store, but, it says the sale happens - Saturday the 13th, 05 (that day only). anyone who missed the first sale, wants to hoard some, or wants a diffirent pattern, save your pennies for a week. :-)
and i would say the new one (4450) would be the least confusing for the robe, because the old one had a different hood/duster/mantle thing in the pattern, but, as far as mods to the pattern, they look about the same. I would suggest at least making the hood bigger, and round in the back, if not making the sleeves larger as well. Ive seen hood dementions between 25 and 50 inches square (all based on taste i think), something inbetween should be good. (depends on your head, hehe) Any one experenced in hoods might be able to give us a reasonable hood size for an accurate looking hood.

I got 4450 a couple days ago at JoAnn's. It's pretty good. And I was thinking I could make a Mon Mothma costume out of the Palpatine pattern...
