I would say that if you really wanna make it easy on yourself, you could make a poncho style robe, like Qui-Gon wore on Tatooine and Anakin wore escorting Padme home. Those seem to be more cutting than sewing. Doing that, you could just attach the poncho to football shoulder pads and even do away with the whole torso part of the costume as you would be covered up.

thats a good idea, i might do that and just work on legs and stuff first that way i might be able to use it for the premiere and or even CIII

I have a wookie costume; actually a Wookie junior costume since I'm so short. So, I was planning on being a Wookie padawan for Saturday night with a Jedi version of the bandolier with pouches instead of ammo. But the bandolier is in doubt since I won't get my sewing machine back from the shop until Sunday at the earliest and I'm not sure I could do all that by hand with all the other things I need to do. Still I have the essential costume and the life-size Yoda muppet to carry around.

Michael Unless you plan on wearing this suit for short periods of time...I dont think id want to try walking on drywall stilts for any length of time. .... and you will need a spotter as well.
Why not try to find some platform shoes or other type of shoe that you can build up...can hide it under the fur. Stilts are NOT recommended...especially for things like escalators and the like.
Out of curosity... since im looking at something similar myself...how are you doing the fur..or wookiee hair.
;D

Those are good safety tips about the stilts, but it also depends on your familiarity with the equipment. One man at my Tae Kwon Do school is a drywaller, and when we renovated our Dojang, he was on those things for the whole day. Now take into account that he's been doing that for a while, so it's a good idea to get comfortable on them without the wookiee suit first. However, I wouldn't dismiss them right off the bat.

thanks for all the advice, but i think my dad is going to help me make some stable half stilt half platmorm they are only going to make me about 7'4" but they will be based around my old rollerblading boots for ankle support
for wookiee fur i am going to buy about 25 to 30 bags of Kanekalon its this synthetic hair that is almost like real hair, it can be curled and everything with a low heat curler, you really cant go cheaper with the super cheap synthetic hair becasue it will melt and tear
i really am thinking about just buying a sewing machine and trying to learn, how hard is it to teach yourself to sew?
ill have a lightsaber by the end of the week most likely

Check out the shape of the sabre too. Are there more pics with a detail of the sabre that you can post in the wookiee sabre thread?

i will either buy a gorilla suit and add hair extensions, buy a jumsuit and add hair extensions with hotglue, or make a mesh suit and tie the hair to it to match the head on the suit
ive been told that everything (including molding your own mask with a face cast and everything) takes around 100-150 hours of work, i bought my head and only have to do the easier parts like the suit
did this answer you question? i havent started on the suit yet but very soon i will
