I currently have an EpI Obi-Wan styled Jedi costume. However the material that we used to make the tuinc and tabbards with have shrunk since EpI when we made them. So I am going to work on findig some new material to use to make a series of about 4 different Jedi costumes for CIII. I plan to mix and match different shades of brown and khaki, but don't have a definite plan yet. I won't be able to start on it till after the holidays are over due to working so much. In the mean time I am trying to come up with some way to add a subtle Rainbow to my costume. It can be a decorative feature. Perhaps on the buckle to the belt (which I am planning to re-do as well), maybe some sort of rainbow stripes added to my lightsaber (I am also planning to creat some metal pipe ones to replace my PVC Pipe sabers). Maybe some sort of decorative jewlery. I usually used to wear a necklace with rainbow of colored wooden beads, but I lost it. Can anyone esle come up with some ideas.

A multiple phase lightsabre? Corran's changes colour as the blade length changes because of different crystals. You could expose the focussing crystals to give the rainbow effect.

From what we've seen in the films, Jedi wear little to no jewelry. We've seen interesting makeup/tatoos on Barriss and Luminara, though. Small rainbow stripes drawn down the chin? I would favor something subtle. I like the idea of a small rainbow worked into the buckle. I also like the idea of doing something with the lightsaber or the blade, as posted by Shatir. If you made a dark cloak like Barriss, maybe a very narrow rainbow stiped trim down the front edges. A 1/4 inch striped ribbon, say. And tea-dye it so it's not so glaringly bright. Agina, subtle is my suggestion. Well, that's if you're trying to stay as close to film accurate as possible.

There are finishes that youcan apply to metal that have a rainbow-ish effect, you might try that on a belt buckle. Why a rainbow effect? Before you sew your next batch of tunics etc. make sure that you pre-wash & pre-shrink the fabric by drying in a hot dryer before cutting & sewing, that should help prevent the after sewing shrinkage blues.

Nova, the rainbow is a symbol of gay pride. I wanted to add it to my costume in a way that it would be noticable, but not look like it doesn't belong. Maybe this will help me actually meet someone 'likeminded' when at CIII It seemd impossible sometimes, especially living in a small city in the deep south. Y'all have some great ideas. The rainbow trim sounds like a great idea. Currently I have a black trim around my robe so I wouldn't mind changing it. I hadn't though about tea dying it, but that would be perfect. It would tone it down great. I hadn't thought about the finishes for the metal either. My brother is a wiz at custom painting model cars. I bet I could talk him into doing something. Maybe even part of the lightsaber I will be making in Jan. As for the exposing the focusing crystals for a multi phase lightsaber, I will have to think of a way to come up with that. I had been considering using a LED light and a clear acrylic blade. Maybe if I had one of the color changining LEDs I could pull off something cool. Afterall I usually rotoscope my blade to a traditional blue after I take pics, so this would be only something you would see in person. I will have to play around with this idea some. I have a friends who is a wiz at LEDs, maybe if I make him a lightsaber he will take care of the electronics. I am glad I posted this question finally. I have been trying to come up with ideas for this since EP II.

By the way Journey, Greetings & Welcome to the TJA, I figured that might be the reason, but didn't want to assume so. I'm sure there are some "like minded individuals" to be found at CIII. So, I guess that means we'll see you there as well. Got to go for the moment, it's bowling night. More tomorrow.

Oh yeah, and our Jedi code says we don't discriminate. I knew we had it in there, I just had to find it. www.thejediassembly.com/jedicode.php Maybe pin a pice of rainboiw fabric onto your tabards?

By the way, I like the design in your bottom side of the box, all the lightsabres look neat.

Thanks Nova, I actually created that image using paint brush at work. I was surprised at how well it came out. I can actually rotoscope using my photoshop at home, but have not had the time to use the pc at home. I will be glad when the holidays are over in January and I can go back to working one shift. Hopefully I will gain some will power between now and then and quit spending all of my extra money I am making. ;D Xana I never thought to actually read the Jedi Code. That is cool that so much is listed on there. I have read it all the way through now. Very well written and layed out. Pinning some rainbow material to the tabbards sounds interesting. Perhaps take some rainbow stripped material, which I already have, then tea dye it, then applique it across the bottom of the tabbards. I will have to do a test to see how the material turns out after the dye and then find some material for the tabbards that goes with it well. Sort of a round about way of coming up with the colors for the actual costume. At one point I considered using a sage green for tabards. I love close to several acres of pine trees and woods. I thought this might be a good way of tying that in, a forrest jedi. However I am wanting to make several different sets so I will have something different each day of CIII. I wish I could get started on it now. I will have to get a couple of differnt rainbow things together, material and ribbow and do a test dye soon. At least then I will now if it will work, but it sounds like it should. Thanks for all the ideas so far.

Yes, Tanthos did a good job writing it all up. ;D See? We tried to think of these things before hand and cover all bases. I just had another idea............... now that I am aware of the decals and flags and such............. How about tracing a decal design on fabric and fainting it with fabric paint? Then you can tack or pin it onto whichever costume you are wearing. The tabard idea was because it would be subtle, yet effective, if someone knew what it meant. And by pinning it, you could easily remove it if you wanted to or felt uncomfortable. Or move it up on your costume if you wanted it more visible. Oooo... ooo......... I had another idea! Maybe add some embroidery floss to your saber hilt. Like wrap a couple of strands each of every color of the rainbow around your hilt. It'll take up a some sapce, but not a whole lot. And it'll be pretty. ;D Again, it's a subtle message to those who get it and to those who are clueless, like me , it'll be just, well.... pretty! Hey, if Jedi Barbie can have a furry, leopard print saber, then why not. ;D

The emboidry floss idea is a good one, it's least likly to clash with the costume as the image on the clothing would. it's also cheaper and easier to deal with. or something evne simpler, a rainbow hair wrap that you cna clip into your hair. Simple easy, removable, and doesn't interfer with the costume itself.

Ohhh, I like the hair wrap idea, you could make it on a hair clip or an alligator and wear it sort of like a padawan braid, you could even add some beads. Several of us have little hair things like that.

Maybe instead of a hair clip a headband like Aayla Secura wear with the rainbow worked into the design. My hair is close to Obi-Wan and Anakin's padawan cuts only a little longer. I have a 7" ponytail in back, although out of costume I wear it down a lot. I plan on cutting it shorter before CIII. On top my hair is about 2" long and usually worn sort of spiky and unkempt like so many are doing now. My padawan braid is now 12" with 2" at the end. A head band would probably work better for me. I cosidered wearing some sort of rainbow band on my braid. Consider it a special designation. That might be the simplest way of doing it.
I love all the idea y'all are coming up with. I better be carful though or I will wind up with a Rainbow Brite costume. ;D
My brother told me there is a paint he uses on his model cars called ice. it can give a rainbow like affect when put over black. I thought that would make a great emitter section of a lightsaber.

I like the idea of having the ice on he lightsaber hilt. I've seen the pain and it can really have a cool effect.
The braid banding is good too. There are already lot sof colors of braid bands anyways. My charcater has three colors in her braid (red, yellow and green -- pilot, weapons and living Force)
