What kind of extra bag would a Jedi carry? I've arrived at a temporary solution and I'd like to see what solutions others have come up with. Sometimes, as at Cons, I need to carry more than will fit in my pouches and pockets. So far, my answer is that it would be simple, cream or brown colored, cloth or leather. A backpack would work. However, it doesn't fit well over those huge sleeves of the robe. These are what I've made so far. Both have long straps so they fit over the shoulder like a baldric and I wear them under the robe. One is large, with the Republic insignia and one is smaller (about 12 inches), with a leather strap. The larger one I use to carry in things for a display table or my photo albums and books. images6.fotki.com/v74/photos/4/42813/792776/DSC01763-vi.jpg [/img]

That's actually one of my projects on the bench right now. As my character is somewhat of a "Jedi Archaeologist", he carries a lot of diagnostic gear, books, datapad, and the like. All that sort of thing doesn't fit well on a belt. I plan to simply make a "black powder bag"...carried by those who re-enact pioneer and Civil War eras. It's simpy a sholder bag, made of leather, for carrying things such as ammunition, and other such things. Some, like the image below, have built in knife sheaths and so forth... This type of bag can be obtained as a kit from Tandy Leather and costs $40 . Here's an image of the kit...bear in mind the one in the image is decorated with feathers and conchos...you can make it as plain as you want...fringe is optional... Anyway, mine will be of this type... ~Kai Rhann

Way back, I did a simplfied version of a backpack, it had a drawstring top and straps that were long enough to fit over the tunic sleeves. I actually made it to carry my robe in when it got to hot to wear it around the hall, or at outdoor gigs, since I made it from the fabric the tunic was made from, it blends right into the tunic and isn't to noticible, and when the robe isn't in it, I wear it under the robe. It also holds snacks & bottles of water. Some of the Jedi Apprentice & Quest books refer to backpacks so I figured they'd be ok, better than a North Face or something. The two styles you guys have done are great as well, sort of "Diplomatic Courier Pouch" type things, I could see a Jedi using them.

man .....some interesting ideas.... right now....I try to cut down to the bare necessities when I wear my costume....only what will fit in the pouches....a single car key, a credit card and driver's licence, some money...and my cigarettes & lighter.....my camera....well......I used to put that in the big pouch (now I usually carry it)..... but I have found out that overloading the three pouches ends up pulling my belt way down (my Jedi belt is fully adjustable...but does not lock in).... and I have found that excess weight in the big pouch makes it pull away from the belt at a funny angle.....looks really bad..... and....sad to say .....for as much effort as I have put into making 3 robes....I seldom wear any of them....sometimes I don't even bring the robe along because of heat issues....more often than not...the robe is in the Jeep.... so....these are some really interesting solutions...I would probably just make a very small one.....just for the camera......

KaiRhan, nice leather bag. I also have an old leather bag, somewhat similar to yours, that I've thought of carrying.
Schph: most of the time I manage with just my pouches and the pockets of my trousers. Usually the Con is in a hotel and I can just hike back to the room if I need something or have to drop off something I've acquired. Or if we're doing a gig, there's a "green room" where I can store stuff.
However, I'm going to ComicCon and I anticipate picking up lots of stuff throughout the day that wouldn't fit in pockets/pouches that I'd have to carry in my hands. So, not wanting to make constant trips back to the hotel to off-load, I thought I'd need a bag.

Diplomatic courier shopping spree bag! ;D, I hate carrying lots of little bags with purchases around, I'm always afraid I'll set them down & leave them somewhere, I don't, but I get paranoid that I will. a friend I used to travel with used to do that all the time, she drove me nuts.

In the comic "Emmissaries to Malastare: Part II" A'Sharad Hett was pictured with a totebag. It had the Jedi's clothes, gear, etc.

Yeah, I kind of think we've hit on the logical solutions for the problem. Totes, pouches & backpack things, if they don't look to out of place, they work. I wouldn't want to see one of us dragging around a neon orange & green bag made out of nylon & plastic, say. EEKK! what a sight!
Not sure where the old backpack has gotten to, I guess I'll have to do another, or a pouch of somekind.

Well, after a weekend in costume...both Imperial Officer and Jedi here at Gen Con...I can tell you that Jedi are lucky that they have even pouches...lol...
I volunteered on Saturday for 5 hours in Imperial Officer and the only place I can stash things is in the holster for my Stormtrooper blaster....with the blaster in the holster there isn't room for much of anything... but Gen Con asked the volunteers NOT to bring their weapons...so I had on the holster with no blaster....there is a LOT of room in the holster when it is empty....but I missed having my Blas-Tech.....

Another good thing, Jedi wear Dockers, so you might have pockets in your pants too. ;D

So far, I only have one pr. of pants with pockets, so, most of the important stuff goes into the pouches, mostly keys, money, tixs, and maybe a granola bar and my lens drops.

Humm, I hadn't tried to make a tote bag although that'd be a grand idea. Humm the jedi's clothing fitting in one? That stuff's pretty bulky. A back pack yeah.
jedi Kai I like the tote you made, VERY nice.
Kai Rhann, your leather one is nice too. If my leather making skills were better, I'd make one with the Republic symbol.
Too bad I couldn't find my leather backpack. <big sigh>

Mynn, if you fold the tunics and robe up tight and it's a big bag (my hockey bag is about 1' diameter at the ends, 3' long), you should have no problem fitting that it. Or, you could make one a bit longer for your saber blade. My hockey bag is a shiny black, and that, if I remember, was the color of Ki-Adi-Mundi's bag in E2M Issue 1 of 4. So, I may take that.

I like the Jedi tote bag. I might already have something that works, but I'll have to look for it. BTW, one non-standard thing I have is a cloth pouch that hangs on my belt. It goes about where the back loop is on a Jedi belt and is sized exactly to fit a paperback book.

Jaren, Have you a picture of that page? I'd like to see the bag. I was seing if I could make something like a tote, I can put my outfits and such inside if I roll them up.:-) (Base brat, yeah I know.:-D ) I wanted to make one of leather.(Not suead).but was unsure how large to make it without it being too big.(I pack light anyway.)
I was also thinking of using a brown leather backpack. How would that work? Those are usually treated to deal with rain, sturdy and look nice.
