[glow=blue,3,0000]The position of the colors doesn't matter. Just make sure you put a band in the middle of the braid, and another at the end of the braid. Both Anakin and Obi-Wan did that.
I've been growing my braid for 2 years now, and it's just barely as long as Anakin's in Ep 2. It really stands out though, cause I have the Jedi haricut minus the ponytail. (I could hide the braid at work under a hat, but not the ponytail. Dang dress code!)
Anyway, I'm hoping to put up some pictures of my braid after Ep 3. After that I'm cutting it off. Which reminds me, what was the de-braiding ceremony like? I didn't get to watch the Clone Wars cartoon, so I never saw it.[/glow]

I'm pretty sure the band in the middle should be yellow and is for when they turn 13 and are officially taken as a Padawan. The colors at the end are for specialties, such as pilot, weapons, etc.
The knighting ceremony was like a Medieval ceremony, with Yoda laying (not quite) his lightsaber on Anakin's shoulders and then whipping it to cut off the braid. The Council was all ina circle with lightsbaers lit and held in front of them. There is debate though since there was no purple saber among them
"By the right of the Council, by the Will of the Force. Dub thee I do Jedi...Knight of the Republic."

Honestly I don't think they mean anything aside from being fun colours. Anakins were 2 blue and one red...saber colours maybe?
Obi had yellow and red...favorite colours maybe?
I doubt there was a specific reason aside from what the EU has said.

I'm keeping mine on as long s I can. How ever I think the left one might end up getting yanked off one fo these days. The colors. Some think the red represents the beginning of the training and other colors(Yellow, blue, green white) represents the type of training the padawan is going into.

Colors are allegedly to mean specialties:
red - pilot blue - healer yellow - lightsaber & other weapons green - living Force black - covert ops white - ?
But again this is all speculation since I don't think anything specific has been written on it

Ah, here's what I dug out of an old thread:
Yellow band----New beginnings as a Padawan. This is applied right after being choosen as a Padawan(before 16 standard years old.)
Beads or other color bands represent the Padawan's area/s of study. Possibly woven along the braid. The yellow band at the top and the Red band at the bottom.
Red band after 16 standard years old means he/she is starting on the road for gaining of wisdom and knowledge.
White-------Healer Blue--------Mechanics Red---------Pilot Green-------Living Force Yellow------Lightsaber/and other weapons Black-------Jedi version of Covert Operations.

I use Red and Blue...because they are my favorite colours, not because of some grand scheme of my favorite things.
Considering the Jedi have like zero outward displys of accomplishments I doubt that they would braid young padawan braids and adorn them with distinctions of skill.
Like really its against the principle and overall appearence of what a Jedi is in the prequels.
IMO of course

Wow, I've never even paid attention to colors on braids. But in referance to the very begining of this thread, I'm a female padawan, and I have a braid. See here: (crossing fingers and hoping the image actually works) but then, what Primrodo said makes a lot of sense too . . .

[glow=blue,3,0000]Nice. Btw, the pic worked.
Here's the only good picture of my braid I have access to at the moment. I'll warn you in advance, I never said it was a good picture of me, just the braid. ;-) Sorry it's so big. I'd crop it, but I don't have an account of my own, and my friend took the pic.
And I'm not gettting rid of the braid just yet. I've grown rather fond of it. ::sheepish grin::[/glow]

Yea, I have a woman at work who asked me right after C3 if I was getting rid of the braid. I said no. I don't think its going anytime soon.

I was just thinking that advertising your background in covert ops with a black band on your braid isn't very covert.

And as I said, the colors are all speculation I know Just adding to it from a different perspective. And Ani-Chay...too true!

[glow=blue,3,000]Ah, but you're forgeting something. Only another Jedi would recognize that the black band means covert ops. (It's true, no one who saw me in line picked up on it.) Besides, with my hair color the black sorta blends in. Very covert. ;D
All joking aside, I usually do black and green, but I'm not really into covert ops at all. Those were just the only colors I could find in the small hairties. And I lost my green bands about a month ago. Anyone know where I can get the rubber bands people use on their braces?[/glow]
