[glow=yellow,1,0000]::Slips into the conversation for a moment er two.:: Boy have I missed a LOT while gone. My braid is officially 1 year old now and when tightly braided only comes down to my shoulder. It's roughly 8 inches unbraided. I got some hassle when first growing it but now everyone at work is used to it. Of coarse my mother keeps comming up behind me pretending to have a pair of sissors lol. I give her the evil eye and she laughs. Personally i've had fun watching it grow. Now I just need to keep it growing for C3. I wouldn't worry Tek, it'll grow. Took me 5 months er so to be able to be able to braid it and even then the braided area was only an inch long. It'll still look silly for a while after that but by then people will be used to you having it. [/glow]

My braid is 14" from beginning to rubber band plus 2 " at the end. It is 8" longer than the rest of my hair in back. Occasionally I will get odd/interesting comments from people. Sat. a Total stranger tugged on it at the grocery store and told me it looked neat. I teach kindergarten and everytime I lean over to help them at their desks, it falls forward and they love to grap it. My sister's cat thinks it is a cat toy.
I have had it for almost a year and half. I have trimmed it back once. I kept the piece I cut off since it was 6" long. I am considering trimming it back again, but I want to wait until the amount I cut is more. Maybe over Christmas Break. Then my students won't notice it as much.
I couldn't imagine getting rid of it.

Coool!! It's 16" long? I just started growing mine 5 months ago. I have really short hair every where else, so it looks pretty weird, but hey, it's worth wearing it to the opening of EpIII! I'm gonna wear the rest of my cosume as well. That'll be fun:D!

Aw Jen, don't cut it back. leave it long. they look even cooler longer. just tuck it into a pony tail with your hair.
I have a long Padawan braid from behind my ear to the middle of my ribs. I was in Walgreens yesterday and some one asked if I had my hair cut. Then commented how the braid looked. :-)
I've had some hansdome guys just walk up and give it a little tug.

Well, my braid is now longer than the rest of my hair. Got my hair cut this week and now its showing. Even my boss commented on the briad, saying "You didn't have this in yesterday." Had to tell her, yes I did but I don't think she believed me.
The hairdresser kinda looked at me oddly when I said she couldn't cut the braid and I told her about C3 and she sounded all okay about it, but I know inside she was screaming "GEEK!"
She works right across the hall from my desk at JCPenney ;D
I am planning on getting my hair cut a lot shorter right before C3 so my braid really shows.
Any comments/ideas on a Jedi hair-do?

Yeah whenever I get my hair cut I hold onto the braid and the only one who hasn't questioned it is this lady that clearly appears to be a remnant of the 1980's, when braids and "rat-tails" and such were popular.
I'll probably get my hair cut once more before CIII, so that the braid will appear longer.
Jen-Ru, you should make a headband out of the braid if you trim it back.
I have a braided headband made of fake hair that I bought to wear with my costume, but I can't get it to fit right. It annoys my head. I think I need to cut the elastic off and just use hair-pins to keep it in place.
Xana has a braided headband also... hers looks really good. It's the same color as her hair.
You can also make one out of wig hair, just braid some and glue it to a headband. Then you can make it as thick or thin as you want.

I was just going to tie my hair back Qui-gon style. And I have a headband with one outfit.

That's what I used to do too, pull the sides back into a ponytail so my braid shows. But I do want short hair again

I did used to weat it during the 80s as a rat-tail. Now it is a little darker than my normal color

I don't have a padawan braid ... yet... I could have one if I wanted to my hair's long enough! down to my waist and hopfully longer as time goes on. I prefer to do something a little more elaborate: a thin french braid starting at my right ear and going over my head following the hairline and then braiding it down to the bottom a good twenty inches of loose braid... the french part is about an inch wide and it looks awesome!(You could also braid things into it)

After being at C3 I'm presently working on a much better Jedi costume. I'm thinking of growing a braid for it to wear at Dragon Con in September. I just read all the previous notes about braids. If I understand everthing correctly, a padawan wears a brade behind the right ear, they put colored bands on it mine would be yellow for padawan, blue for mechanical, & green for living force. Which position would I put the different colors? I'm probably going to have to get a hair extention for awhile because I like my hair to be in a boy cut. I also took a tv guide survey & found out I'd be ranked as a Jedi Guardian.
