It does mention a bit about Obi-Wan in the Epilogue of "Dark Lord".

Personally, I think that old Ben just did a combination of most of the things mentioned above (save for gambling; he's not the sort). The book said he was a scavenger, coming around the farm once in a while to trade things.

Ooo....ooo!! I know! He found a new, nifty way to market and sell sand to the offworlders in spaceports. What?!! Maybe there's some planet where they need sand! Like Kamino. How else they gonna build stuff without a dirt floor? Huh? Gotta have a foundation somewhere, right? Market anything properly and it will sell. If it works for Coffe Shop of Horrors, it can work for a mind tricking Jedi.

I think I agree with a previous post, the ANH novel (Uncle Owen, I think) mentioned something about Ben being a scavenger. He probably traded with the Jawas and moisture farmers, then ventured into Mos Eisley every once and a while for a beer and some information. He had to keep tabs on the Empire somehow... as well as getting info on any "odd" characters showing up on Tatooine (Rebellion spies or Jedi hunters and such)...

I'm sure Padmé would have set up a trust fund for the kid... ummm, kids.... as soon as she found out she was pregnant. Ben would be the custodian of the trust fund until Luke was an adult. Since Ben is an honorable Jedi, he would only take what little he needed for himself, and save the rest for Luke.

Wasn't that Dark Lord? Also could have been the first book in Last of the Jedi.

Yup...your right...the EU books really mesh together well! In LOTJ Obi-wan found out that Ferus needed help from 'gossip' and went to aide him....

My sis just came up with something: He sold his biography: 'My Life as a Jedi' Only $19.95 And to save himself scrutiny from the Empire, he listed it as 'Fiction' with a disclaimer stating that 'this author is NOT a Jed'! Welll...that's HER idea... :

I suppose Ben could have made sand candles...
But realistically, I'm certain that he would occassionally go into Mos Eisley (like that cantina) and stategically won enough to live on. He wouldn't need much at all, and he could stategically lose, so he wouldn't attract attention. A lot of the economy of Tatooine seems to run on gamblling and Qui-Gon certainly taught Obi-Wan how to gamble the last time they were there!
After all, if a Jedi is in the game, it's not really gambling for the Jedi.
