Just for clarification, Mr. Lucas never said he never cared what the fans think. He said he feels bad that they fell in love with a half completed film. Thers another quote too that I can go get if it comes up, but he never says he doesn;t care.
His love for the fan base is what allows us to be here and I don't think we should be quick to judge or quick to decide his opinions...

I agree, Primodo, I don't think he's gone to all the trouble he has to update the OT because he doesn't care. In fact, I think it shows the opposite to be true. Leda, you totally summed up what I say to myself every time I read what the angry bashers have to say. I don't mean the people who dislike the changes, or prefer the original version, I mean the really hateful, angry people who feel that Lucas should have asked their opinion before changing his movie. Are there things I would prefer changed--of course. In no way do I think these films are perfect, but IMHO they are the best they've ever been and I'm thankful. I can look past a few white sabers, matt boxes, or even story elements and enjoy the movies more than ever.

you have noted some of that really angry stuff too...huh? I have noted that with a couple of the other groups I am with.... as always... TJA members handle this sort of thing with good humor and grace....

You've got that right! There were a couple of sites I frequented for a while so I could monitor events with the up-coming DVD release. Now that the DVDs are out I deleted the links from my favorites, since I don't see myself having a need now. It was tough wading through the negativity. I actually learned about mistakes in the movies that I had never seen before. Now I can't miss them. I don't need to have dissatisfaction planted in my mind like that. I'm planning on joining RL, too, but TJA is by far my favorite.

ditto Leda.....I had goosebumps when Hayden's face appeared at the end of ROTJ....... Sebastian Shaw never cut it for me anyway....and I think that is because you didn't know much about Vader as Anakin until the PT......and I didn't care as much about Vader in the OT.....<<
Schph-LOL! I actually thought Vader was the interesting one back then, with "I am your father' thing and all (and back then many fans were upset with this and didn't believe it, but a friend, Donna and I did and thought it was so far-out! Must be the writer in me. And I never thought he was evil as many did and still do. He did too many things that spoke opposite. Anyway, we watch 2, need to watch ROTJ-maybe tonight, if nothing on. Hey! Just found this site and this looked like a good discussion. I like how Hayden is in the scene now because that was when he turned to the dark side. It doesn't really make sense to have some random guy no one ever sees in the movies and a body that never physically existed. I mean it would have had to be a really messed up looking spirit if you wanted to show Anakin when he died on the 2nd Death Star. So i like what they did with this scene.

Just my 2 cents … abet late ... I guess I see the whole problem as the 25 years between OT and PT. That was A lot of time for people to create their own story lines and ideas on how they would do it / have it done. For those of us who stud in line for the opening of "STAR WARS" in May of 1977, only to get the best tickets available, July 7, 1977, There are 2 ways to look at it ... I don't want my memories tampered with, or as I am ... I love the new addition to make it better. GL always said “Movies are never completed, just abandoned.” I think he is trying to complete the movies ... They are HIS movies not the fans. I was there for the 1st showing of each of the next 4 movies and my feeling was TPM was what I wanted to see when I saw ANH. Haydens Head at the end of ROTJ makes the circle complete. And remember there is a new generation that has never see the OT as it was first released. All these changes will make the 6 movies flow together for them. Just my point of view

My biggest problem with Hayden's head being in the scene is that it was halfway done. Anakin never wore the robes that he is wearing in the scene, and he doesn't glance at Obi-Wan and Yoda like Shaw did, if I remember correctly. I don't know, it just didn't feel right to me.
On a side note, I HATE that they redid Boba Fett's lines.

There's a lot of debate about the robes Anakin wears in this scene. My take (without having seen ROTS, of course) is that he chooses to wear those robes as what he would have worn, had he not fallen. The directions he looks could have been a little better, but it's like anything else in the movies that I don't really care for, it doesn't get in the way for me.

I have to believe that GL does care about the fans. Why wouldn't he? But it is his movie. It's his vision, and as an artist, he wants to bring the film to be as close to that vision as possible. Just look at the technology that has sprung out of his quest! If I made a painting that was all blue, I would have done so because I wanted it that way. It's my painting, my message, I am the artist. I wouldn't add red just because some fans wanted to see red. I would care about their opinions, but to alter my vision just for the sake of pleasing those fans would be selling out to a few folks who probably "missed the point" of my work, and lord knows Hollywood does quite enough of that! Whether we like or dislike what he's added to the OT is a matter of personal opinion. There are some things that bother me to no end when it comes to the prequels, but the fun comes in analyzing why he did what he did, and quite often I find that by taking that approach, I end up leaning something new. Does that make sense, or am I just rambling again? I agree with you on this Leda. I thought at first it was a terrible idea to change things, but like you said It is HIS vision. You can never please every fan no matter what you do, and he went with holding to his vision. It does connect the two trilogies, and as usual wuth GL there is probably a philisophical reason in George's mind for the changes. We must all remember we as fans are playing in Georges universe, we're only guests.

We must all remember we as fans are playing in Georges universe, we're only guests. I was just going to say that. We live in his world, he doesn't live in ours. I wouldn't want someone telling ME how to create either. It's MINE! He SHOULDN'T listen to us. Well, maybe just a little, but hey.......... And I have met up with some of those negative people who hate whatever about the films. I used to belong to a Sci-fi group who trashed one SW movie or another to me when I showed up to an event or a meeting. It got me so upset that eventually, I quite the group. It's sad, really. I'd rather NOT know all the bloopers and what not mistekes and what people don't like, and just watch the movies! I want to be 5 again and just watch them! So that's what I plan on doing. Which reminds me of something............. how do you guys deal with those people who come up to you, when you're in you costume, and start to tell you all the things they hate about SW, the prequels, and what they think Lucas did wrong? I really hate it when people do that! I mean, I'm in a JEDI costume, for pete's sake!!! I LIKE SW!!! What makes them think I want to hear their trashing? So, any suggestion?

First of all... we owe nobody an explanation of why we like like Star Wars... I swear this is going to be the topic of my research paper for my history of film class! Maybe I'll actually figure out why I like it! Anyway... maybe just answer with a question... ask them "Well why do you like the movies you like? and see if they have response. That's the nice way. It not, you'll just have to resort to "aggressive negotiations" ;D

Ok, take that Anakin hating creep from Chiller last year. Sure he was stoned and drunk, but still, he was ANNOYING with his trashing! What's a good way to deal with people trashing the films when you want to hear nothing of what they have to say. Becasue we've all heard it before 100 times over. Besides aggrssive negotiations which would have got us arrested seeing as they already broke up a saber fight......

Humm. I liked the old movies, and the Special Editions. I haven't the creds to get the DVDs but did catch snatches while at an event opening for it's release a week ago. The changes took me by suprise but many were good. Some made sense and created 'clsoure' others made me go "Huh???" But ya' know, it's not my creation nor my baby. It's George's. He went out ona limb to make these movies wayback then and did it yet again with the prequels to finish the saga. I don't get wigged out crazy over Anikan's head on someone else's body. I mean the clothing could'a been handled better but again, ain't my movie. Looks kinda cute.;-) Alright I said the obligatory girl thing. :-P I enjoyed all 5 of the movies. A new hope got my interested in space travel, NASA and ignighted the desire to explore. Even if the exploring is only on earth or into the things of God. The journey is always an adventure. being able to face the nasty stuff within, is downright scary for people. Eachone made my jaw drop with how FX were done, matte paintings, space or planet scenes even how Droidkas move. (Egads creepy. Gemme' a can of Raid. :-D ) I think he's done a very good job with these. Espcially the actors. Acting in front of blue/green screen has to be difficult. Weather the movies were half finsihed, or completely finished, all in all, they were and are a work of art. Lucas poineered into areas of FX, and thought that never was tried. Lucas has always tried the do the impossible and got unknown actors and gave them a chance to be a part of the very long living saga. WIth the half made Star Wars triology, we'd never have ILM, LFL or the amazing FX that are stadanrd fare in movies now.;-) Another pattern I've noticed, since he tried new bits in the 70's and 80's, it set a trend for each directior to attempt to to the same. I remeber seeing on Sci Fi channel a couple of years ago for the fanfilms. George was judging the flicks and he was saying how amazing it was the average joe can now make movies on their coimputers with the right equipment. He also mentioned some of the contestants were VERY talented and had faith in the newest generation of people who'll make movies. Also said, it's done forthe love of the art not really what others want you to make. Cinemagraphic art is just that, art. Ok nuff rambling. I'm quitting before I bore people. I'm probably not making sense. But it is how I see things. Onto people who come up to me in my SW gear and give me greif over the movies. I try to stear them to the positive. What DO they have that pioneed what we know see as normal FX. Sometimes if they get nasty I amay say"Dude it's a MOVIE. Entertainment." :-) If they seem to drunk, or annal to listen to logic and reason, I walk off. (Force cloaking does come in AWEFULLY handly in losing people like that. :-D. ) Just kidding. ;-) It depends on the situation.

The only really dumb remarks I've heard when I'm in costume are cracks about dating, implying that anyone who is a costumer is such a nerd that they can't possibly have a social life. That and a DJ who seemed shocked to see a female Jedi. (I have his exact words quoted in my signature on the Alpine Garrison board: "The Jedi's a chick!")
