well we survived! Trees are down on top of powerlines in the street and everywhere so we've got no power at home or in most of the town. Im out at the mall borrowing wifi for a few minutes and getting warm lol! they say it will be 5 to 10 days before the power comes back... our street isnt a priority. But we are luckier than the Jersey shore.

My power was lost at 5:30 PM Monday and was restored at 6:30 PM last night. I was shocked that NYSEG restored my power so quickly. Maybe it has something to do with the local Jr. High School being on the same grid as my condo development? Last year when I lost my power twice, it took 5 days for it to be restored both times. The Oct. 31st blizzard was the worst because it was cold by then and my cat and I were freezing. It took 3 tries for Sandy to knock out my power Monday evening. The 3rd time it took a pine tree from one of the neighboring houses to bounce on the power lines to take away my electricity. Until then I was enjoying my lights and heat playing legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on my Wii. If I hadn't gone camping at Pennsic War, I wouldn't have done as well as I did these past few days. NYC is CLOSED! The Big Apple has been mashed into applesauce. Metro-North RR is slowly restoring train service, but us upstate suburbanites have to drive south to the station were service begins for my line. The same edition of the NY Post where I read that Lucasfilm was sold to Disney, has disturbing pictures of the devastation in Manhattan and its 5 bouroughs. The Financial District and Battery Park (southern most tip of Manhattan) is flooded. I was working there just a few months ago and drove on streets that are now submerged. Lady Liberty had to change into a swim suit to deal with the hurricane. NYC is waiting for the Army Corps of Engineers to come and pump the 1000's of gallons of water from its subway system, which is where Con Ed has its power distribution systems. The Big Apple is going to be off until the subways can be drained. Just great, too. Until power is restored there will be no Christmas festivities. The holiday season in NYC starts around this weekend (Rockerfeller Center Tree, The Christmas Spectacular in Radio City Music Hall, the window displays by the major department stores, etc.). These will be on hold until the lights go back on. Most of all....has anybody heard from Nova? She lives uptown, but probably has no power, either.

Me, I'm fine, never lost power, the theatres are open, we only missed one night. The store is in the east village, still closed, no power, supposed to have it back there tomorrow. Slowly hearing from scattered family and friends, all are ok, so far, some lost power, 1 his apt. and stuff, but otherwise they are ok.

Glad to hear you all made it through the storm! It's all over the news and looks like it will be there for awhile. Hmmmm, yes camping at the Pensic War does sound like good warm-up for a power outtage.
I think location helps a lot to determine how fast your power comes back. After a tornado from Hurricane Ivan knocked down every pole on the major street half a block from where I lived then, I got my power back after only 4 days -- there was a grocery store across the street and a fire station further down; I think they got priority and they worked their way out from there.

During the storm I was watching some DVD's and reading the credits at the end of one there was a very familiar name, a pretty young NICK GILLARD, was a seaman.

Checking in... still no power at home. I'm staying with my sister about 40 minutes drive away. Now we have a snowstorm to deal with... but its supposed to be sunny this weekend. Hopefully we'll get back to normal soon.
Nova glad to hear you're ok with all this... I was thinking of you!

STILL not power? Gee, I think my cousin in New Orleans might have gotten his power back sooner after the last storm that wasn't Katrina.

Leda, thinking of you too, glad you're at your sister's, say "Hi" for me. Just the thought of your driveway in this mess scares me. Will have to come visit and do the double when things are back to normal. The theatre will be closed for 3 weeks after the 18th. Free time. Trying to tame my wild Nexus7, mostly it's an app for that.

Yeah... normal seems far away. I hate looking outside and seeing all this snow... normally I would love it. I have to go back to my house today and get some clothes and things. Not looking forward to getting down the driveway! I don't have boots with me either.

I have got to stop buying sewing machines! In the process of getting an embroidery machine, I've wanted to get one for awhile, but this will be something like machine # 17 or 18, I need a bigger sewing room! I keep a few of them at work, and several are single function machines, some I bought for parts, but they worked to well to dismantle, so they became back-ups, but I think the embriodery machine will be the last for awhile at least. Well, at least I use them to earn some $.
