Yes I agree with TanzanLinnear that metal shouldn't go with PVC...it 'cheapens' the whole thing.
If you don't have a dremel try to look for copper pipes which they use for hot water piping. Copper is a lot easier to cut and shape then brass. You can just cut it at an angle and file it round with a metal file. Takes a bit of work but it looks a whole lot better then painted PVC, especially when it starts to oxidize and get tarnished later, that is if you like that and won't seal it with lacquer spray.
The only problem I can forsee with copper pipe is finding one with an ID that match the OD of your other metal pipe...
I'm doing the reverse with my latest saber, i,e, using a copper pipe as the inner pipe and an aluminum pipe as the outer.
