Yes I'm sure that Mace was deflecting the lightning back (onto Palpatine's face) as well. Can't really say why sometimes it is absorbed by the lightsaber, and other times deflected by it.
But in the case of Yoda- it may be that the Emperor was much more powerful than Dooku- When the Emperor zapped Yoda he probably expected the lightning to have the same strength of lightning that Dooku threw at him in AOTC.
It was much more powerful, so Yoda was knocked off his feet.
Yoda did tell Luke not to underestimate the Emperor's power (which Yoda did in ROTS- he did lose after all).
