No one here, or any other costuming group that I know of, has made their costume because they wanted to join a costuming group: they made their costume because they wanted a costume! Being part of a group is simply an offshoot of that. There's one now. I made my costume because the local Sci-Fi & Fantasy community I belong to wanted to put together a contingent of costume wearer to make appearances during the EP3 premier week. We got organised, solicited the help of known costume makers, costume rental shops, and got everyone we can convince to help to get involved in doing research on what to make, how to make it and where to get materials. We decided from the start that we're only going to allow members who come up with a costume of decent enough quality to join the contingent, because the contingent will be a reflection of our community, a group of 'ambassadors', if you will. Some of our members who are students get their aunts, mother, sister to help and came up with simpler, but accurate Jedi costumes. Those who couldn't afford boots made their own by adding leggings to dress shoes.
Schph Gochi was kind enough to post a detailed Jedi costume tutorial over at our forum, for which we're eternally grateful!
Corja offered his assistance to make my costume, but the deal didn't materialise because of our distance and because I just started too late and just ran out of time...
And here’s the end result…this is a montage of several pics of us during various outings.

From left to right: Rebel Fleet Trooper, Agen Kolar, Darth Maul, EP2 Anakin, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatin, Jedi Padawan, EP3 Anakin, Pregnant Padmé, Red Royal Guard, Jedi Youngling, Obi-Wan(with techtical visor), Yupa-Anex(Lost Jedi), Plo Strax-Avix(me!), and a 3-ft-long Star Destroyer worn as a helmet...
[If this photo is deemed inappropriate due to the presence of characters other then Jedis, please let me know and I'll remove it and edit the post accordingly]
Believe it or not we never thought to take a group photo, and now everybody has returned to their respective towns, and it’ll be quite difficult to get everyone together again unless there’s some huge Star Wars event in the future…
I would never wear my costume on my own because I'd probably get laughed at by everyone I walk pass, and probably even get beat up by some young punks, not to mention little children would run around me and tease me to death...yes I live in a country where anyone wearing a costume outside a theme party or event is considered a nut case and a freak...sad but true...
Believe it or not even while making appearances with the group (which was 18 strong) during EP3 premier week, we needed escorts to ward off curious kids who would try to pull at our cloaks, or would purposely try to trip us as we walk from one venue to another, and teenagers who would try to challenge us into a fight...
Not to mention idiots who would shout 'Here comes the Ring Wraiths!' when we walk with out hoods up...
Sorry about the long post, I will shut up now...
