I personally think that seeing an X-wing fly out of the screen would be fun (ny)! Not to mention seeing everyone duck when that one podracer flies over their heads! LOL!
I may go and see 'em, but only in the theaters. What with two copies of both I and II hanging around the house, (one in VHS, the other DVD) plus the OT DVD boxed set, and probably the PT DVD boxed set, There'll be enough Star wars movies to keep us busy for a long time. Besides, 3D is something that wouldn't be as fun at home.
As to why Lucas is doing it...
Either he's a money-hound, or (IMHO) a visionary. He's like a kid who can't enough of playign with a chemistry set.
