It's usually hit and miss with me.
I really did it backwards, taking the picture of myself first and then looking at the pic I inserted it into.
The lighting needed to be on the right side of my face instead of the left.
Here's a (non Star Wars) example of when I get it right-
Colonial Marine from "Aliens".
