I have no love for the new republic Jedi either. The style that the Old Republic Jedi had was the perfect mix of traditional and futuristic attire, and they had a much more knoble attitude. Old Jedi are Jedi Knights, and the new Jedi are like mercenaries.
But, the reason that the old Jedi failed is because of how much they stuck to tradition. Luke created a new breed of Jedi that would never fall under the same circumstances that poor Anakin did, because they are allowed to form attatchments. That of course creates an all new batch of problems though...
Overall, the Old Jedi are far cooler and far more respectable, I'd pick them anyday
