Thank you all for the feedback everyone.
To answer some of the questions, the costume is all browns except for the tabbards which are natural unbleached linen. The accents on the tabbards do contain some dark grey but on the whole its the flash photography altering how some of the colours appear. The brown wool tunic actually appears pretty close to how it looks in person surprisingly. The over robe is a a VERY dark brown though so Im not surprised it looks black in pictures.
Ani-Chay - yes the tabbard design is from one of the games, I liked the look of the slanted bottoms in contrast with the lines of the over robe slanting in opposite directions. As for the Obi, that probably the single most element that looks different with the flash. In perosn its a dark brown with the patterned areas being a mixture of beige, mid and dark brown. For some reason it looks greyish in the pics.
Crowen - Ive have been thinking about making a new belt in a darker more chocolate brown and I have a spare 'buckle' for the front so I can keep that style which I like. Its one of those things that I'll get around to doing when I have more spare time. Ive still got my original black leather belt but I never wear that anymore. More choice = better so I think I will make a new one sooner rather than later.
I wore it out to an event this weekend so when all the various event pictures are in I'll have to look through them to see if theres any with me in them. Hopefully the light will be better in them.
btw "a change is as good as a rest" is just a common saying here, I didnt think about the fact that meaning can change or be lost with distance.
